Soundproofing/noise reducing ideas
I have recently joined a small salon after being on my own for 5 years...my clients and I have gotten very used to the quiet conditions at my previous location and this salon is noisy...perhaps even by salon standards...the salon is small, my room is small and although I have carpeted, have some furniture and hung pictures there is still substantial noise from blow dryers, pedi chair etc...my door is hollow and i have a draft pillow thing at the bottom of the door but it does little good...I am not expecting graveyard quiet, but already regulars are complaining and Idk what to do!
i thought I would be happy in my new location, and happy working with other people after being solo for so long but I am very unhappy...
any suggestions or ideas would be much appreciated :)

Somebody else had a similar topic on the forum, way back -- my suggestion there was to hang thick, soft curtains on the door and wherever it would look good on the walls. It's not ideal and depending on how much noise there is, it might not make enough of a difference, but it will make some difference.

There is some left over fabric from the salon remodeling/redecorating before my arrival! I will see if that could work at the door area...I have an idea about how to make it work now! Thank you Carrie :)

I bought a sound machine that makes white noise and put it outside the door (walmart has them & there is an app on IPads), then in the interior I created pictures on a canvas frame and padded the back of them which acted like sound insulation. Here are the directions; pick fabric that you love or canvas, staple it to a plywood frame about 1.5 inches thick and then spray glue egg crate foam on the back. My room was small so I only needed 6 24x36 in size. Another idea is to try to have a temporary barrier build between you and the salon if the layout will allow. You can use folding closet doors, then pad and cover them with fabric.

I really like the idea of the padded canvas! Oh! Maybe if the fabric covering the door idea doesn't pan out, perhaps I could affix several small padded canvas frames to the door? love brainstorming!! thank you Susanne!

The salon where I am put up a large white noise thing. It helps drown out some of it and I have heavy curtains covering my window.

I am going to look further into a whitenoise machine outside my room...there is an area right next to the door that might actually work :)

Ours is above the ceiling somewhere so that it goes thruout the hallway as there are two more MT/Esties (I doubt it affects the other 2 hallways were it's all hair/nails. I've been in a couple of rooms elsewhere and the machine was set inside the room near the door. It is so aggravating not only to client but us as well.

I hung an area rug on one of the walls in my treatment room and it looks beautiful and helps soundproof as well.

I also always have a little tower floor fan that is on and helps to circulate air and provides a white noise effect. ;)
