Our reader question for the next issue of ASCP Skin Deep magazine is about how you deal with kids in your practice. Do you offer services or spa events for preteens? And what about adult clients who unexpectedly bring their small child along with them - what do you do?

I'd love to hear everybody's thoughts/opinions about children in the spa (whether as clients, or brought along by their parents).

I have had 3 clients bring their babies before...2 were close to newborn and one was older (2 facial clients and a spray tan).  I also had a mother daughter come in (facial and spray tan) and the daughter sat in my room while I gave the facial (this was really akward for me but I dealt with it).  I don't have a problem with kids as long as the parents are ok with it and the children are well behaved.

I try to book my client that needs to bring her very little one in (I only have 1 client with 2 little ones) at a time I know the other therapists are not working. fortunately for me she is a quick brow wax. If it doesn't work out and another therapist is there my client is very good at keeping the child's "inside voice" very low.  12 yrs ago I had quite a few preteens I was working with regarding their skin issues but as the years went on my clients age range is between 35-68yrs. old.

Over the years I've had clients bring their wee ones in and I've watched them grow up. Some are now in the their twenties! I've actually enjoyed it and it helped the bond with my clients. I've worked on most of those kids when they became teenagers and now young adults!

The Mother's have always been very respectful and taught the kids about quiet time. It has worked out for me, but I can see how disruptive it would be if the Mother wasn't in control.
