Does anyone know if we are allowed to do this in Ca? Does our insurance cover it? I have ASCP and I can't find the info to see if we are and I figured someone on here would know. :)

I was taught how to do this and lash tinting from my mentor. She is amazing and I was lucky enough to learn stuff from her that I didn't learn in school. She has been doing this for years with no issues and now I have too but I want to know what is allowed.

Thanks!

As a cosmetologist 'yes' but an Esthetician cannot perform a service that makes the hair curl/straighten whether this is hair on their head or the lashes.  So theoretically using a solution that changes the structure of the hair is only to be done by a Cosmetologist.

Estheticians also are not supposed to do lash tinting in Ca (but a lot do....not judging....too many other things to be concerned about)  BUT perming/changing structure of hair is a def no.   :)

It's great that you know to ask these questions! For your ASCP insurance, there are a few stipulations on coverage for lash perming:

"The product must be FDA approved, proof of training must be provided to ASCP and, most importantly, the esthetician must be allowed to provide this service within their scope of practice."

So as long as you meet all those requirements, lash perming could be covered under the insurance policy you receive through ASCP. If you need the contact information for your state board, visit http://www.ascpskincare.com/become/boardinfo.php

I hope that helps, please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions!

Does that mean that Claire is correct in saying that Estheticians cannot perform this service? And what training is provided? I also didn't think that any lash perming product was FDA approved yet.

Thank you!

It's all decided state by state, so you would need to check with your state board to find out whether it's allowed for estheticians. There are too many state boards, too many techniques and too much constant change for us to possibly keep track of it all! :-)

I'm not sure about FDA approval myself, as I'm not familiar with the lash perming products that are out there. Sorry I couldn't be of more help in this regard!

Just in case anyone else is interested in this information...

Lash Perming is PROHIBITED in the state of California for everyone! I contacted state board and that is what they told me. I even clarified with them about cosmos. No one is allowed. :(
