I'm putting together our next fun back-page feedback column for ASCP Skin Deep magazine, and here's the question: What was your most memorable experience with a client? Good, bad, funny, scary, or inspiring⎯anything goes.

The other week we had hundreds of HILARIOUS replies to a similar question on the ABMP Facebook page (for those who don't know, ABMP is our sister association, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals) which turned into an endless series of stories about ... oh dear ... farting clients.

Like the question says, it can be good, bad, inspiring or anything. What's that one experience you will never forget?

i call this the superhero complex

Good-

I have a client who was at her wits end in dealing with her acne for 4 years.  She was in  tears as she explained that I was her last resort. She had seen a couple of estheticians and 3 dermatologist and no one could get it right and help her.  I felt such a huge responsibility to help this young lady.  I took her hands, looked into her eyes and asked her to put her trust in me.  I told her that she would need to do her part which meant strict homecare, diet changes and making sure she kept her stress level low.  Her first treatment was long, she had many extractions and she was in pain.  She still trusted me. She came back every couple weeks for extractions/facials and peels and was so good about taking care of herself.  Within 3-4 months her skin was 95% improved.  No more active acne.  So we worked on clearing her PIH.  I still see her every month now and she has become not only my client but a friend to my daughter. They carpool to the same college.  This young lady has touched my heart with her honesty, sense of humor and mature attitude about life.  She and others like her are the reason I continue to love what I do every day.

I've had a few more as an LMT-but worst as esty

I had a woman about my age (64) come in for a facial, upsold to add back massage (sd. she was just thinking of adding little massage! (Had previously been to me for massage 1x) and when I was looking at her skin beginning the facial asked if she'd like her brows cleaned up (sd. I was justing thinking of asking you to do them!) offered at no charge, she'd prepaid for back massage and facial so wouldn't have to bother afterwards! For some reason did not hand her the mirror when finished-went on to complete facial, after leaving her to re-dress and on her way out the door she looked horrified. What did you do? Blah, blah, blah.....OMG-when I thought they looked really nice (I only did the strays but because of her high forehead, (she'd had to have a facelift to remove cancer, so she always left all the strays all around her natural shape), except on her eyelid and between her brows. She said she wanted the brows of Brooke Shields (when she was a younger woman! I guess!) this lady was nearly blond/grey with sparse brows to begin with. I filled brow in with a darker pencil so they showed up more but she still wasn't happy and was going to the D_______'s cosmetic counter where they knew what they were doing! I wrote a note later and asked if she'd like a complimentary facial or massage but of course, never heard back!
