I'm just in the process of redesigning a room. Painted yesterday and putting flooring into day, hubby is. Could I test you as well and get some advice. My room has all the electrical panels etc. I was thinking I could make it look a little industrial with the silver boxes and bring in warmth with walnut dressers, blinds etc...We are having a hard time figuring out if we should cover those electrical boxes or make it part of the decor
Would love to hear your thoughts
Ok I uploaded some pictures. As you can see there are two doors on both sides of the room. I am not going to use the door that leads to the outside only the door that leads into the salon.
is the wall that the outside door is on a concrete wall? I think if you aren't going to use that door and you are ok with blocking it off you should make it look like that is a window. Get a nice shade (maybe something bamboo or wood) and then put curtain rod on top with some really nice sheets so that almost gives you another wall. That should be the head of your treatment table. Go to Walmart and buy a couple of three shelf bookcases, they are only about 12" deep but have that lining behind you or get something that is 12-14 deep with those fabric bins that you can pull out for your storage. Then maybe on one side of the room but a nice long (wide mirror) with a thin shelf underneath. You can use that for small votive candles and even display some product. On the door that goes into the salon, I would put a small table so that you can set your information on and maybe they could set their purse on. On the back of the salon door get a really pretty hanging hook, not one that goes over the door, but one that screws in (pier one has these). Hang a nice robe on the door and have an extra hanger for them to put their clothes on. On the wall that you don't put the shelf and mirror on, have some nice pictures, maybe one of those 3 sets of pictures or somehting. You would also soften is up with some drapery on the ceiling (if you wanted to go this far). Get some nice wall plugs that have almost a wall sconce feel or get some battery wall sconces that you can put on the walls for softer lighting.
What is your color scheme?
If you aren't able to put anything in that wall think about how you could somehow make a rod that stretches across the room and is free standing that you could then hang a solid curtain from or something like that.
Hope this helps.
I was in a room with a fire door opening to outside awhile back.
The Fire Marshall said that door could NOT be blocked PLUS I had to put up a lighted EXIT sign.
If there is no other back exit in the business I think you might want to check local regs before covering it up.
I am also moving into a new space and my room is only 9x7.. REALLY tiny! The building it's in is still not done being built, so I am lucky I can start fresh, but really frustrated that it's so small. I am thinking I will have to get all wall cabinets to fit my stuff in. I know I will need to have some sort of counter space and another space for client's personal belongings, but it's hard to find stuff that is exactly what I need that isn't custom built and expensive.
I've been searching craigslist, but so far haven't had any luck here. I wanted to get something like that, though! A corner cabinet would be ideal for me.
