Hi everyone!  I took a class this week at IDI and something from that class stuck with me.  She told us that naming treatments as a Facial causes people to think all fluff and no results.  Do you agree with this statement?  As an educated professional, I know a facial can be so much more and can get great results.  She said she feels they should all be named Treatments.  What names do you give your services on your menus?

hmmm...  i think i perfer facial... for basic europen, and treatment when doing the fun stuff, e.g. enzymes, peels, micros ect.

The word treatment has been used in the medical field forever and I believe because our industry has evolved to be more clinical, perhaps that is why she "feels" they should be called this. In my honest opinion, I believe our industry has gotten too far away from the "spa" concept and has become too clinical in the sense of cautioning on the side of not making the client feel they a "number" and ensuring you can still provide a hospitable, welcoming and nurturing environment.  After all, we do work in a service industry. :) I've worked in two medi spa's and I've had friends who've worked at a medi spa as well. All around it has been an in and out experience for the client.

I think you can have both. when  I do all the fluff with the treatment I call it a facial. There are times that my clients don't have time to do the whole facial experience with all the pampering. They just want to get the peel and steam with some extractions. When I take longer and pamper them I call it a facial.

I tend to say treatment more than facial or services when talking to clients- because it's not just a few products and a massage!

I actually have a friend who said this to me about getting a facial:  "It seems like a waste of money.  All you do is put creams on and wash them off.  Even if you leave one on at the end, it's washed off the next day."  I was just kinda stunned, and just said, no, but she wasn't interested in hearing anymore, so I left it go.  I truly wonder how many other people think this is all we do.

On my menu I say "session" because I am a duel therapist. I tell my clients I "customize" or "tailor" my treatments to their skin as needed.  My sessions for massage and skincare are the same pricing so it makes it easier for a client when they buy a g/c and let the recipient choose what type of service they would like to have. I like simple and easy to understand and a clean menu to the eye!

I have to agree that Jodi's friend is more mainstream than not but I dont know if they buy in to treatment much more thanfacial unless you break, out technology like led, micro, or something with the hum of a motor or flash of a,light. sorry about punct. having a glitch. lol
