Make Up
I've been having a lot of questions on good make- up lines. Most people are using department store brands. And I don't have a lot of knowledge on this and would like to hear others feedback or web sites to look at for research. Thanks!

Some of my favorites as a makeup artist are Makeup Forever, Tarte, Urban Decay, Lime Crime, Smashbox, Kevyn Aucoin, CAO, Laura Mercier, Bobbi Brown, the list goes on for days. Are they asking about certain product recommendations or overall lines?

Over all every day lines for personal use. And what are some of the not so good lines?

Hi Nicole,
When I worked in the spa, I used Mineralogie mineral makeup on clients and they loved it as well as myself. Great line and gives a beautiful finish. As far as the "not so good" lines. My advice is to educate the client on ingredients if that is a big concern for them. Also, Lea has mentioned some great lines as well. It's really a personal preference for the client. I use to also freelance as a Pro Makeup Artist and worked at beauty counters several years ago and makeup....well, it's just one of those "personal preference" things. You can give them some options/recommendations that will help them with their decision.

Speaking of educating clients on ingredients, the line "Color Science" has very light; pure ingredients in it; very good foundations and mineral make-up, that can be used on more sensitive & oily skin types as well.

Im not really looking for something I can sell them, but more of something they can get on there own somewhere. Thoughts on department store brands...? Brands to stay clear of....? Or is it not really the same as skin care products...?

On that note, Color Science! They can get these products on their own; it's the healthiest good quality make-up I can think of. Bare Minerals is decently good too; but I still think it doesn't compare to Color Science. Either brand they can purchase on their own. As far as the skin goes, oily, and/or break out prone skin types should go with a mineral powder* foundation; and dry skin types should go with liquid foundation; or BB cream.

I agree, if I were going to carry makeup it would be ColoreScience for sure.
I do see a lot of acne, so have recently brought in Lycogel as a camoflage bb that is safe for those clients. Love it so far!

JANE IREDALE! The BEST skin care cosmetic line out there. PERIOD. With ingredients like hyaluronic acid and tons of antioxidants. I've worn and sold her line for the past seven years!!!

I dont carry a makeup anymore, but when I did Glo minerals is superior, all natural with spf and you can't get it in ulta or sephora only at a spa or doctors office.......
