Will do Ray...the good thing is no contract to sign, so if hidden charges appear then I can cancel without any penalties. This device was featured on CNN Money as one of the top 5 devices a small business should have :)...we'll see........I'll keep everyone posted.

Hayley, can you share with us what your experince has been with the CellCharge. I think is part of Square or is it different.... I would really appreciate your feedback since I might need to make a decision very soon. I am cash/check only and is hurting me, people spend  more when they can charge. I know from past.

Many thanks, Cora

Cora and everyone

So far I love my Square....no monthly fees 2.75 % per transaction, a little more if you have to enter the card manually. I can always see my balance....I can use it away from the office ie: My neigbor wanted me to take product home for her so I just swiped her card at home. Love the fact that it sends me an e-mail receipt for every transaction and I can either e-mail/text a receipt to my client.

Very Happy with it.

Thank you, Hayley. I appreciate the input. Since I don't have an IPhone yet, I would have to pay for one and the monthly charge . I will balance the cost and convenience of IPhone + Square versus the other merchant service mentioned here without the contract and equipment rental. best, By the way, in a lot of countries, outside the US, when you pay with a cc, the "terminal" comes to you (like in a restaurant the waiter brings the machine to the table, the cc never leaves your sight. It freks me out , here, when you hand a cc and the waiter disapers with it to the back....)

Cora

Cora,

I'm actually from England so totally get what your saying. I too hate the fact that some-one disappears with my CC. The client is a lot happier when they can see the whole transaction going through :)

Rikki, below, has a paypal account she uses. That may also be an option. You wont need a smartphone, just a computer. I'm going to look into that too .

ooh I just checked this out and it looks pretty cool. I think I will start out with this, too.  Keep us posted, Hayley, on how it works!! (any issues/bugs/etc.)

Thanks!!..Gina..I'll keep everyone posted...let me know if you try it out and what you think

What are your per transaction charges?  Is American Express higher than, say Visa or Mastercard?  Thanks for the information!

What about clients who do not have an email account or want to give it out? Can you print a hard copy receipt at point of sale?

Also- Is it awkward for clients to sign on a smartphone?

Yes...signing on the smartphone is a little tricky. A copy of the receipt can either be texted or e-mailed, no hard copy available. The client can always enter their details...the smartphone doesn't save their details, that way they keep their information confidential. It's always good to have clients e-mail addresses to advise them of any new products/services or special events coming up.

The only down side to square is the money stays in their account for 30days....unless it's over $1000 then they pay in 3 days.

Erica,

Justthought of an option. E-mail to your business address and then print the copy from there.

I send the receipt by text message and the clients think "finger signing" is just the coolest thing.

I like PayPal and have been using it for about a year now.  It's easy to set up.  You don't need a terminal.  Everything can be done from your computer (and now I think there are smart phone apps for it too).  The money is in your PayPal account right away and only takes 2-3 days to transfer to your checking or savings account.
