Credit Card Machines and Software

I have just opened a new business and am baffled by the software and the prices charged for credit card machines......does anyone have any information on the best software and merchant to use....I am a one-lady show :)

Rikki,

Do your clients have to have a paypal account? Can you accept all major credit cards?

Do Pay Pal transfer the money into your checking/savings or is that something you have to do?

This could also be an option to look at, as I have a paypal account.

I'm very happy with it Amy. It's user friendly, my clients like the way I can e-mail receipts and I can process the transaction in front of them.

ASCP has a member discount on Intuit GoPayment - you get the cardreader free (it plugs into your phone) and there isn't a monthly charge, you just get charged per use. If anyone is using Intuit and has feedback about it (good or bad) and how it compares to other services, we'd love to know what you think, as this is one of our newer member discounts.

Yes, it's for mobile devices only. Here's their list of supported phones and other devices, http://devices.roamdata.com/device-center/index2.php

The Intuit website is http://gopayment.com/ and it has all the basic info there, but to get the ASCP discount you have to sign up using the details that are in the ASCP member login area - you can find these at www.ascpskincare.com (log in, then go to the Exclusive Discounts page).

I'm confused.  I just spoke with someone at Intuit yesterday and he told me there was a monthly charge of $9.95.  There is no contract and no cancellation fee.  The rates are 1.70% swiping fee plus .30 per transaction.  All in all it's a good plan compared to alot of others but I just don't get enough cc's to justify ten bucks a month. Are you saying they offer another plan that doesn't have a monthly charge?

I have worked with go payment for over a year and am very satisfied. I started with it before becoming a member of ASCP and there wasn't a monthly fee. I also got a card reader free at the time for a blk berry, I now have the droid 3 and card readerss are not compatible at this time (only disappointment). Your money gets deposited into you cking acct 2 days after the transaction. You can use this on smart phones, computers and ipads. There is also no contract

Intuit GoPayment has TWO Programs.  There is a free option and second option with a monthly fee.  You can choose either plan regardless of how much you charge per month.  If you do tend to charge more than $1000 a month, the $9.95 might be a better option with the 1.7% swiped transaction rate.  Otherwise, ask Intuit about the special ABMP and ASCP rate without the monthly fees and a swiped rate of 2.6%.

This is the information I have received from Intuit and compared it with Square. For intuit I was told and received application along with merchant agreement and fees for ASCP members.

Intuit

2.6% Visa/MC/Discover.

3.7%  Mid-qualifying card (Manual Keyed Entry)

2.89% + .15 cents per transaction American Express

$20 Chargeback fee

$25 Reject Fee

No fees for monthly, minimum, cancellation, PCI (security fee that some card services pass onto the merchant) Statement, gateway, or annual.

Square

  flat rate 2.75% for all major credit cards including American Express.

3.5%  + .15 cents Mid-qualifying card (Manual keyed Entry)

No hidden fees same applies as with Intuit. I could not find anything about reject fees or chargeback fees with Square.
