Hi everyone!

I was just asked to donate a gift basket to be raffled off at marketing luncheon next week.

I have agreed to donate a gift certificate($75 value) as a separate raffle prize and am asking for suggestions for the gift basket donation. (The marketing company wants two separate donation.)

I was thinking of designing a basket with my marketing material, a few samples of skin care products as well as a bottle of body lotion. I feel it needs to be amped up a little more. My theory behind the basket is to motivate a skin care client.

Suggestions??

And what will you be getting in return for your donation?

Do they have a website or newsletter that they can list and link to your business?

@Cindy,

The return is not as 'sound' as I would like, as the return would be two potential clients(gift cert and basket winners).

PROS:

I will be the only business promoted at their marketing function and I have a meeting with the sales manager next week to brief her on my services. (She is also partaking in one of my services after our meeting.)

I'm new to this and didn't think to ask her for any 'guarantees'...

Donating is always a good thing and get's the word out in a nice, subtle way that you exist.  Good for you for donating!   An anti-aging concept is always a good one.  Everybody wants to feel they are buying/using something that helps towards that.  Do you offer a anti-aging facial?  If you do, perhaps you could have that as your theme with some sample bottles for them to try.?  Just a thought...  Or a Mum and daughter package for a spa day for the both of them etc...

@Claire-

I love your idea re: anti-ageing concept. So with that in mind, do I worry that the sample products are indicated for the winning client? What about allergies, contraindications, etc???

After thinking about it some more I thought I would place a gift cert in the basket for a complimentary skincare consult and product samples(I already offer this as a complimentary service, but then it would actually bring the client in the door.)

This way I am not out extra costs, per se, but I'd still gain the interest of a new client...

Thoughts?

Yes, i agree...the gift certificate is probably the best way to go...that way they can choose what to get.   A consultation is also a great idea as that allows you to show your expertise and recommend what is best for them.     Yes, the winning client might not need "anti-aging", but might be more in need of an acne facial per se.....consultation with gift cert is a good idea.   Without knowing what other services you offer it is hard to recommend what else you can offer etc...plus i am not sure what kind of venue your basket is being auctioned at.

Gift certificates are usually popular, and it is probably a good idea to add an expiration date. Also, may be consider making the gift certificate for a consultation and a mini facial or the type of facial the certificate is valued at, and possibly go ahead and include that body lotion with a ribbon. Good luck with project. I’m sure it will turn out great!

Lugenia's idea sounds great.

I also love that Mom/daughter idea!

NEXT time be sure that YOU get something in return.

Usually that would be something in the way of marketing/free advertising.

And that passive marketing - that hopefully "someone" will see your name on the gift basket is NOT good enough. They might remember the gift basket - but people usually remember the contents NOT the business. AT the very least you could display a stack of brochures that attendees can look at and take with them.

If they have an event program/newsletter/website etc - THAT is a much better avenue for displaying your business and services.

We get approached all the time to donate FREE products and services.

IF it is a charity that I CHOOSE to support in this way I will consider it - otherwise I want to have more tangible benefits than maybe getting a one new client.

At our marketing meeting I am going to supply the sales manager with brochures, pamphlets and other marketing materials to have on hand to promote my studio.

I am also going to put together a framed card displaying the NEW + upcoming services that I am going to be offering: 2 Ultrasonic facials as well as Eyelash Extensions. In the hopes it will also create more business buzz.

Perfect!

I like the idea of a mini facial attached to the complimentary consultation in the gift basket. That makes me feel more comfortable and feel like I am offering a suitable basket.

My gift certs expire one year from the purchase date, so I'll prob just make the exp 3/2013.

I found a really nice artsy wooden bowl and filler to display the items and threw in a few Dove dark chocolate squares for color and pizzazz.

Thanks!!!

LOL! Chocolate makes everything better!

Your marketing material sounds solid - the special framed info for new services is great - people always look at something like that even if they don't pick up brochures.

Good Luck!

Whay about this concept " Glow from head to toe". With that you can give a gift certificate for a brightening facial which can include an enzyme for the Spring. Then add a body polish or scrub to the basket. That way out of the facial, samples, and body polish/scrub they're sure to give you a call.
