I don't know about you, but my thoughts are that vendors are going directly after consumers, and by-passing we, the professional estheticians with this new concept.

This makes Private Labeling our products SO much more attractive these days.

*sigh*

a quote from that article...

"After more than 20 years of experience behind Les Nouvelles Esthétiques & Spa magazine and The International Congress of Esthetics and Spa, it became clear that there was no bridge connecting consumers with the skin care and spa industry."

ummm....wth?

Exactly!  It isn't their JOB to connect consumers to us.  Their job is to connect US with vendors, not our clients!  Not a very bright idea.  Not even a little.

AND Another thing!  We can pay $25 and attend as consumers...and then two weeks later pay $75 to do the same damn thing?!  WTH is WRONG with this picture?!

--N--

I checked the website and didn't see a list of vendors participating.  Looks like it's still in the planning stage.   I'm going to follow up later to check their site again and will contact any vendors that I deal with.  Wouldn't be great if we ALL did this?

Hello ladies,

BeWell Expo is not about vendors going directly after consumers but it is about offering a platform for skin care and spa professionals to join forces with their manufacturers to help customers appreciate the benefits of visiting a spa or salon and to help them relate to the professional skin care/spa lines available for retail at salons/spas.
BeWell supports the efforts of spas and salons to reach out to a new client base, given the challenges of budget, time and expertise, and boost retail sales and revenue.
By working together with your manufacturers, you can offer mini-treatments and/or demonstrations at their booth, and present a special introductory offer to consumers as an incentive to visit your spa or salon. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity.

I think this is going to create quite a backlash in our industry, and in my own personal option, rightly so. Cutting out the esthetician is not going to create any loyalty toward the vendors that choose to participate.

They are not cutting out the estheticians, on the opposite they are offering them a new platform to create a brand awareness. Most spas and skin care professionals need support selling retail products. By presenting and educating the professional brands to consumers they will be more open to buy the recommended home care regimen from you as they will relate to those companies. They will understand the benefits of using a professional brand instead of going to a department store.
Your services will actually stand out from the vast selection of products/services available to the consumer.

I do do not agree at all! If consumers have the opportunity to be so well educated my manufacturers & the as they state the 'inside' scoop on the lastest trends etc then why in the world would the consumer depend on our profession???? In addition why is it that at all of our expos it hey are open to licensed professionals only??????? I thought we are to get the insider scoop & educate the consumer???? BS if you ask me!!!!

Two words.  Private Label.

Plus.  Wait until the companies are offering things like free shipping, beach bags, and umbrellas to consumers.  We can't compete with those freebie give aways, and yet that is what these companies will be conditioning our clients to expect.  Like at the department store counters...I will be making a list of companies that participate, and I guarantee you, they will never get ONE CENT of my money.  Period.

No offense De La Haye,

but I am not buying that.

It looks more like the first step in BY-Passing the esthetician.

Kudos to the companies that have esthetician locators on their sites.

Here is a direct quote aimed at getting exhibitors:

"EXPOSE YOUR BRAND, BOOST YOUR RETAIL SALES
& DIRECTLY CAPTURE THE PURCHASING POWER OF CONSUMERS!"
It couldn't BE more clear than that.
