I have a friend that have cystic acne. I know a little about acne, but not alot. Some say benzoyl pericide is over drying and can be to much. Other say its needed to cleanse out the pores. I told him to use salicylic based cleanser to help, and use the benzoyl in rational portions. He's on retin a as well. For the acne specialists out there did I provide good advice?

first of all how old is the client?  teen clients can used BP, but Salicylic(best for adults & homonal acne) is most effective unless the contraditions can't be used w/ retin, retinal. a dermal clay cleanser or high % of sal. cleanser is good(at first, then move to a lower %). Skin Vitamins are Amazing for cystic acne. Clean out the intake of caffeine & esp. sodas of any kind-GOTTA Eat vegies & Apples! Try not to mix BP & Sal together it confuses the skin on which & what to do. I only had one client do both cause she wouldn't let go of the BP. so for her it was ok because she came in for series of acne facials w/sal. & began to see the results with the mostly Sal products she was using at home! Don't forget the client should carry cleansing wipes(professional only) with them & USE them at all times! Good Luck!

Thank you for the reply and sorry for the delay hectic day. He's in his mid 20's. I feel bad because acne is a broad subject and there are so many types and it get's confusing to treat. One day something may work, and the next it doesn't. I didnt know vitamins are great for cystic acne. Thanks for that info. I will delay the message and crossing fingers it works for him : 0
