Here's my issue.
I have searched high and low for a network group where I can get the word out and expand business, that's near to my business location, doesn't cost an arm and a leg to join and meets a max of 2 times per month. I am busy but could be busier!
Last month I had a wonderful new client who is also a very reputable real estate professional walk through my doors. She invited me to become part of a networking group but mentioned that the VP of the group is a Mary Kay Consultant. Bummer!!! She talked to this gal prior to giving me the okay to join and now tells me that as long as I don't sell products to any clients that I attain from the group I will be in compliance with the bylaws!!! WTH!! How could this possibly work for me? The MK consultant is not a licensed professional and does not provide services (like me) just products. I can't stand the thought of anyone controlling my business this way and telling me that I cannot sell or recommend (quality) products to my clients.
What would you do? Would you join? All the other groups I looked into in my area all have skin care professionals already in place.
I'm attending my first luncheon meeting on Thursday and would like any feedback you have to offer.
I'm trying to think creatively but I'm not getting anywhere! Please help!!

Wait a minute, are you saying joining this group would prohibit you from selling any product other than MK in your spa?
Hi Michell
They are say I cannot sell ANY products, I would never sell a MLM product anyway. I'm located in San Jose/Campbell area CA
You're worth more than that. There should be NO way they are allowed to that to anyone. That sounds super creepy! They are not worth your time. Again they would do more harm than good.
If that is the case I believe joining would do more harm to your business than good. Where are you located?
I say heck no! Any group that tells you what you can and can't do is not worth being in. I joined a group near me and they do not limit the number or professionals for a particular career. I usually and them only Esty and then the last breakfast I sat between 2 other estys and spa owners...so when it came time do stand up and say what I do I was a bit nervous but I spoke from the heart and I was told by others that I sounded much more appealing. The ones that only allow one professional are nice to a point because you stand out but if the group allows multiple people, you just have to shine. I wouldn't feel comfortable joining that group. My group has a ton of MLM companines too, but I don't let that get me discouraged.
That sounds like an awesome group!!
I'm going to continue searching for the group that's right for me. Thank you so much for the feedback.!
Also try meetup.com its a fab network group search engine
Yes that's a great engine! I am thinking about joining the bridal circuit. If bridal interests you then that may be the way to go
Hi Faith
I'm going to keep searching for a group on meetup.com and see if anything pans out. I don't do bridal since it's a very saturated service in my area. I do specialize in acne mostly and also pigment issues.
thanks gals!
I would talk to moderator and see if this is true, I think you likely couldn't talk about your products in the group setting just your treatments, however, I don't think that applies to you when a client referral from them is in your salon.
