Building Clientele

Let's share ideas about how to build and keep a clientele.  This is something we all need to do.  What, if any, discounts do you offer new clients?  What incentives for referrals and for rebooking appointments?

I am also a sole practitioner.  Here is what I find works with my clients

If they are always asking for a discount, highlight the series (I offer buy 5 6th free) by informing them what the cost per treatment works out to be!  However the MUST pay in full with the 1st treatment.

I also offer a $25 / $25 referal for facial treatments, new client gets $25 off and the existing client the same but off facials only.  I also only allow a mex of %50 discount on any facial.

Finally for the retail side, I put on Monthly essential sales where I offer 15% of 3 or 4 products for that month only, this really encourages clients to come back monthly to see which products are discounted.

I hope that you find this helpful!

My company offers a $20 discount to all 1st time clients, and then we give them 3 referral cards/$20 coupons for them to give out.  When all 3 are returned, the original clients gets $20 off a future facial.   I like the idea of offering a re-booking discount.  We do that sometimes, we have specials for people who rebook, but not all the time.   How many of you use Facebook to 'advertise'?   I have a Facebook page for my job, and use it to announce appointment openings and any specials.

My spa is a traditional hotel spa....we offer the traditional massages along with reflexology, skin care and body treatments.  99% of our clients are guests of the hotel and the other 1% are locals or people staying at nearby hotels that don;t have spas.  Cross marketing crossed my mind to those hotels who don't have spas.

@Jodi - your corporation might already be on Yelp. I would check it out if I were you.

@Beth - does your spa (or you) specialize in anything in esthetics?  What makes you different from other spas?

There's alot you can do with Yelp - put down your specialities, add pictures especially before and after pics, ASK your happy clients to review you (you have to ask them sometimes many times.... ).  You would be amazed at how it will help your search engine results by having key words in the reviews.  As the owner you can review yourself, just to let people know you are there.  Just say that you are the owner.  We got soooo much business from Yelp.

My spa is not.  Because we are inside a hotel, our advertising abilities are limited.  Any suggestions on how to reach the local community?  We are unable to use groupon and sites that are similar.
