Hi all. This question has probably already been asked, but I use both Skin Script and IMAGE in my practice. I see a lot of clients who have milia; each time I've used an enzyme masque from Skin Script with steam, with a lancet and comedone extractor, the milia does not come out.

What am I doing wrong? With my own skin, I have milia that are impossible to get out. I currently use Image on my skin, with all the recommendations from others using Image, but I feel the milia are just stuck. Any skin script products I should use to help get these ready to leave? I have oily skin, larger pores and prone to breakouts. Any help is appreciated, since I see a lot clients with the same problem I have.

Here is one comment from Lisa with regard to Milia

Here’s my explanation on milia:

We have bi-layers in our skin.  They are made up of oil and water.  We’re supposed to have the proper balance of oil and water among our skin.  A lot of us are walking around with not enough water in our skin.  One reason is we don’t drink enough water to get enough water from our dermis.  Another reason is that we live in a dry environment where there could be a lot of trans-epidermal water loss.  Think about the “main” area you see milia – it’s the eye area, right?  It’s thin tissue/skin and trans-epidermal water loss could be great in those areas.  If we walk around with a lack of water in our skin, the oil will start to crystallize into milia.

We have the Ageless Skin Hydrating Serum.  Number 1 – it is a hyaluronic acid serum to bind more water topically.  It also has an ingredient called sphinolipids – this ingredient will bind or emulsify the oil and water in our skin to create a bond to hold more water to create that proper balance of oil and water.

If your client has milia, have her start using the Ageless Skin Hydrating Serum morning and night.  The next time you see your client (hopefully 4 weeks later), the milia should be much easier to extract.  The next time you see your client (a total of 8 weeks later), the milia should begin to resolve itself and go away.

This Ageless Hydrating Serum also works great for acneic skin.  We have natural enzymes (glycosidase and proteases) among our skin cells that that break apart desmosomes to allow for the natural shedding of our skin cells.  If we are walking around with low water among our skin cells, we are going to have cells that stick together and not desquamate, hence acne or excess keratinization.  I believe one of the first and foremost jobs as an estheticians is to kick in the natural exfoliation rate and that will include the Ageless Hydrating Serum.

Hope this helps!

I have the same problem with clients and myself. I have milia under my eyes. The skin script Hydrating serum has helped and exfoliating with an ultrasonic blade has helped as well. The glycolic cleanser is remarkable. I have rosacea and because of these products I can use glycolic 17%! on my skin and see relief from bumps, blackheads, pores, redness, etc. I still have the milia and am wondering what else I can do. They seem in-extractable...however they have softened since the glycolic and ultrasonic.

honestly, I would be careful trying to extract them too...you may want to see a dermatologist.  You never know how deep they go and you wouldn't want it to leave a little h***.  I am only saying this because it happened to my mom (not sure if a Milia was extracted at some point bf I became an esty) but she now has this tiny little h*** in her forehead.....noticable enough for my 4 year old nephew to say hey grandma...you got a h*** in your head.  LOL

Exactly, best to go slowly and remove layer by layer. It is best to take your time and be consistent. Anything worthwhile takes time!

Thanks guys!! I've had these mila for years, and I've had one other esthetician try to remove them, and she couldn't. I don't have health insurance to go to a dermatologist at the moment. I can live with the milia - I'm sure no one else can really see them like I can close up. I'm always told I have beautiful skin, and I just want to laugh. Most of the milia are near my temples, my forehead, and then on my cheeks. I am going to try the glycolic cleanser (thanks for the tip!).

you know what's funny...ppl say the same to me and I always then point out all of the flaws to them.  LOL.  I will have clients come in with beautiful skin and they will be like see that spot right there...or my face has horrible acne and really it's just the scarring and not so much breakouts.  We are always our WORST critics I suppose!!

I had the same questions about milia with a client I just saw so thank you!  Is there a better cleanser or any other products to add to start her out?  I was goign to follow up with her with some suggestions!

Thanks so much!
