Hi all! Shelly, I've already asked you this, but wanted to see if anyone else had some feedback for me. Has anyone worked in a plastic surgeon's office? If so, can you please tell me if it was a good experience, pros and cons? Thanks!

  • Jamie Jacob

What would you charge for mask rental and would you ask for a deposit?
  • Shelley Hancock

Good quesiton Jamie! I'm not sure if I would ask for a deposit but I would have a short contract that they sign and you have their credit card on file so if something does happen to it, they know that they are responsible for such and such amount. I think the rental amount is going to vary per city but somewhere around $25 to $40 a week seems fair.

Shelley, I have a friend coming in today for a facial.  I did the pot of gold Skin Scripts on her before and we have her on a full regimen to treat her melasma.  She is getting married next week and is worried about breakouts.  I was going to lend her my mask and let her use it over the course of the week alternating between blue and red light.  Will this give her a nice glow before the wedding?  I didn't want to do a treatment next week because we are spray tanning her Thurs?  Just curious your thoughts.  Could she use the mask every other night or every even?  I have been using my personal one at home and I love it!!  Ladies, you need this mask for yourselves too!!  It's great, watch tv with it on.

  • Shelley Hancock

Yes, this is a perfect idea for this gal!! She can use it every night. 15 minutes of blue to kill the bacteria and then 15 minutes of red to help inflammation. So happy to hear that you love this toy!!!

  • Sheila Gordon

I have used it in the treatment room with a serum cocktail and then a light layer of seaweed mask and the results are amazing.  I need to start taking pictures!  BAD ESTHETICIAN!!  LOL.

  • Natalie

Shelia do you put serums on under seaweed mask then the LED mask on top or wash face and apply mask to clean skin?

Shelly I forgot what products you are including with the Celluma - so glad you are since i have been telling clients about it prematurly to begin with! do you recommend it's ok to use after Glycolic or Lactic peels? How about having product on while treating an area vs cleansed skin? Last question- what do you recommend to clean it with?
  • Shelley Hancock

The products coming with the Celluma are the Real Serum Booster for anti-aging/pigmentation and the Real Balance Serum for acne/oily/large pore skin. I love using LED after a peel. I've done several layers of Skin Script TCA and then put them under the LED!! I learned many years ago to use LED on clean dry skin....but a few yers into it I started to play with putting products on the skin and I have to say it boosted my results. You will hear otherwise from LED companies...I'm just sharing my experience. It can't be a product that is white or clay. The light has to be able to get through it. Also, you don't want the light to reflect off of it, so it needs to be a thin layer. Hope that makes sense!!

  • Natalie

Yes -thank you! it all makes sense and serums sound great!! I have a good TCA peel also-thanks! What do you use to wipe/ clean the actual panel with after use or in general??
  • Sheila Gordon

Yes I do the serums then the thin layer of seaweed and then lay the LED mask on top for 10-15 minutes.  This is when using red light.  As another Esty friend pointed out, no seaweed with the acne clients or blue light.  For my friend at home I will tell her to use her serums.

  • Shelley Hancock

Just a dry cloth. There are plasitc disposible sleeves that you can purchase for when you are doing a treatment where it touches the skin. They cost $19.95 for 100...not expensive at all! When you're doing the face it doesn't touch.

  • Natalie

Ok cool- I wanted to have whatever needed by time it arrives- thanks again!
  • Natalie

Thanks Sheila! I was not aware of seaweed with red light either.
  • Sheila Gordon

You don't have to do it, just something I have experimented with :).

  • Natalie

I meant blue light! Haha- think I will stay away from masks with panel!
    Peels and serums only :)
  • Shelley Hancock

I've now used the Celluma panel on three clients that are so claustrophobic that I can not use my big face panel on them.....they have been perfectly okay under the Celluma...go figure!!! I haven't been this excited about a piece of equipment since I got my FSD four years ago!!!

  • Shelley Hancock

A client came in on Saturday afternoon with screaming forearms from carpal tunnel. I put the Celluma in the infrared program over her arms while I did her facial. When she checked out she thanked me profusely because her arms felt sooo much better!! WhooHoo!

  • Nicole

Hi Shelley!  I just ordered the Celluma!  Do you have a list of contraindications for the LED?  Are they the same for the infrared?  I was also wondering if you have any examples of brochures for the LED and also for the FSD and CTL or do you use the brochures from Radiancy? Also, I did not see where to purchase the disposable sleeves for the Celluma that you mentioned.  Thanks for your help!

  • Shelley Hancock

Hi Nicole....I'm not sure if Celluma has client brochures. I'll have to look into that. I don't use brochures from any company. I'm not a big brochure person because I know that once that client leaves my Center that brochure typically ends up in the round file (waste basket) along with the $$ I've spent for the brochures! I prefer to have a book of before and after pics in my waiting room to show them what can be accomplished with each peice of equipment. It seems to be more dramatic and effective than a brochure with a bunch of mumble jumble that they really don't even understand.

I'll get a PayPal button up on the Celluma page of my website for the plastic sleeves...thanks for remindeing me!!!

You'll be getting info about contraindications, etc. Thanks for ordering it...you are gonna LOVE it!. Now that I've worked with it a bit more, I'm making another video this afternoon.

  • Shelley Hancock

Isn't there a line in a song "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down"? Well, it's rainin' like crazy this Monday but I'm definitely not down! Hope ya'll had a fabulous Easter Sunday. I don't have any skin care news to share today....just wanted to check in and say have an incredible week and share this quote: "Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try"

  • Johanne Wayne

Hi Shelley! I have done 2 treatments with the Dermawand and absolutely love it.......Do you have any suggestions for collagen-building products to put on after the treatment and a few days after? I am soooooo thankful for you!

  • Shelley Hancock

I'm loving my Real PerformanceGel with matrixyl 3000 and DMAE...talk about anti-aging! I had only been using it in treatment but one of the Estys that actually purchased it from me told me she was using it daily...why didn't I think of that! :-) So, I have been applying it daily for about a motnh now and I like what I see! Thanks so much for your kind words!!1

  • Shelley Hancock

Last night I put the Celluma panel over my decolletage while watching TV. This morning it looks FABULOUS. I did Skin Scripts TCA (just one layer) and then applied my Real PerformanceGel before the Celluma. I can tell a difference with just one treatment. Those of you who have purchased the Celluma...don't forget about offering decolletage treatments!!!

  • Sheila Gordon

Shelley can you give a little run down about the dermafiles and using over an enzyme?  I saw another post, you put a little water on tope of the enzyme and lightly polish?  How long do you typically let the enzyme sit on the skin before doing this?  Do you find that one SS enzyme works better than another or all the same?  I had an esty use one on top of a cleanser with lactic in it..it felt amazing.  Do you ever use them on top of a cleanser?  I watched your video too, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us :).  Do you like tiny circles over back and fourth or combination of both?

On another note, I did the passionfruit enzyme on my mom, your led mask with seaweed mask, and the chocolate mask and her skin looked amazing!  I love that LED mask!

  • Melissa Bradley

I also have a dermafile question....can you apply 1-2 layers of a light TCA peel after? I know you can do a peel after a regular microdermabrasion treatment so would this be the same?
  • Shelley Hancock

Hi Gals...thanks for your questions. You can definitely do layers of TCA after Dermafiling...just know your clients skin before applying too many layers right off the bat!

My wonderful friend Lisa from Skin Script came up with Dermafiling over an enzyme. I only add the water because I do not do steam. If you are using a steamer with your enzymes, then you do not need to add any water, it's moist enough from the steam. I only leave the enzyme on about 3 or 4 minutes, because I spend most of my time with my toys! Again, just know your clients skin before using the file over the top of an enzyme....it's like you are scrubbing the enzyme into the skin. This could be a good thing or....it could be a really bad thing if the client has sensitive skin.

I'm a circle kinda gal! I like the circles for some reason but there are definitely places on the face that I do back and forth.

Love the treatment you did on your Mom!! Sounds like it smelled as good as it felt! :-)

  • Sheila Gordon

SHelley, I know it's probably not in your arsenal but do you or have you ever used the hot and cold hammer?  I just attached mine to my micro and thought I would give it a whirl but was curious your experience.  I tried it on myse;f and it really does feel nice, the warm for relaxing and the cold for maybe post peel or something to sooth.  I was wondering if I should put somethong on the skin first like gauze and also would there be any contraindications for it?

  • Sheila Gordon

I have applied oil to my arm and tried the hot side and it feels great, I thought maybe instead of hot stones this could be good to get the skin warmed up and soften the pores for extractions but I wasn't sure.  Thanks for the tips!!!

  • Shelley Hancock

Sheila...you are so correct, the hot/cold hammer is not in my toy box, so I'm not much help to ya'll on this one! I have been looking into it though for the cold to numb the skin before the Radiancy FSD. It seems to me that you would have to have some kind of product on the skin when using the hot and that it would be good and feel good for massaging in a product. Because it's just heat and cold, I can't imagine that it would have the same contraindications as most of the equipment we use (pregnancy, pacemaker, etc).

  • Cindy Greenwood

    I don't have a hot/cold hammer either.

But I am not sure that the cold hammer gets cold enough to use prior to Radiancy. I am using the little gel packs that you put in the freezer, but I am still so awkward with it!  I am wondering if those beauty globes or ice finger things would work.

The hot hammer would be nice to work products in, but probably a more effective piece equipment would be an ultrasonic head or galvanic...or if you have the bucks, the electroporation unit

  • Shelley Hancock

Good to know Cindy about the hammer not getting cold enough! I tried the beauty globes and the round shape was really awkward!

  • Nicole

Shelley- do you know when the new Celluma panels will ship?  Can't wait to try it:)

  • Shelley Hancock

It's been delayed to closer to the end of April....no later than that though. There always seems to be delays when making manufacture changes...we want it to be perfect though! It's funny, I keep getting emails like....I'm chomping at the bit to get my Celluma and I'm so excited to get it that I'm peeing my pants!! I personally haven't been so excited about a piece of equipment in a long long time. I'm having a blast with it. I've been taking it home almost every night (for my use!) and one morning I forgot to take it back with me. Oh my, were my clients pissy with me! It's very relaxing as well as effective.

  • Shelley Hancock

Lisa from Skin Script is showing my husband and I much love out here in Arizona! We went to a really fun restaurant last night with an incredible view of the valley. When you enter, you have the option of taking the stairs down to the dining area or going down a slide...I took by 52 year old behind down that slide just like a little kid...whoohoo!! We've three totally packed workshop between today and tomorrow. I'm looking forward to meeting so many Estys!!

  • Shelley Hancock

Wow, what an awesome day at the Skin Script headquarters today! We did two workshops and the place was packed both times!! It was such fun to see some of you in person.....I only wish it wasn't so crazy so I could have had time to just sit and chat!

My new electroporation toy was a BIG hit. Everyone loved the way it felt on their skin. It's not up on my website yet, but look for it soon. I'll be making a video also.

Gotta get some rest now.....we're back at Skin Script tomorrow for another packed house!!

  • Shelley Hancock

New video on my website about my latest toy!! I just put the page up, so I'll be adding stories in the next couple of days. We sold 17 of these at the workshops in Arizona at the Skin Script headquarters. We had lots of fun playing with this toy! http://www.shelleyhancock.com/electroporation.html

  • Brooke Mouzakis

Hello Shelley! I know you add 10 minutes of LED to all your clients treatments. Do you just mark up your treatment price to compensate? Also, what would you recommend charging for LED add-on? I just purchased a panel and can't wait to use it:)
  • Shelley Hancock

I just factor in the time and cost of 10 to 15 minutes of LED into every treatment I offer. Most of my clients pay me $150 and up for a treatment that includes the LED. I think $25 to $30 for a 15 minute add-on is reasonable charge. Don't do any less than 10 minutes...I don't think it's benefical. I have clients that come for a 30 minute LED treatment in between their regular facials. I only charge $40. I want to encourage them to do this and at $40 they will. I'm not doing anything...I'm in the other room making phone calls and having a cup of tea! Easy money and happy clients! :-)

  • Brooke Mouzakis

Wow, such a quick reply! Thank you so much! I was thinking $25 for a 15-minute add-on as well. I plan on offering some great mini services that include LED too. I also want to encourage clients to come in for a session between facials too. $40 for 30-minutes sounds like a great deal to me:-) Thanks again Shelley! I really appreciate it!
  • Shelley Hancock

I'm putting together a workshop focusing on "positivity". We won't be talking about products or equipment. I find that I spend more time chatting with ya'll about staying positive than I do chatting about the business of esthetics! I think we are all wired to think more about what we don't like or what we don't want than what we do like and what we do want. One thing I absolutely know for sure is that whatever you're thinking and talking about, you'll get. So, how do we start gearing our minds to focus on the positive, especially when there is so much negative right in our face. That's what I want to spend some time going over and helping you with some ideas on how to make that change. I don't have the date yet, but I'm hoping to do this in June. I will post more soon!

  • Shelley Hancock

I did mini facials at a Mother's Club event the other night. No access to water...here's what I did and became a HUGE hit!

I was doing a training for an Esty the other day. She brought a client of hers that had only experienced a European facial. We used all of my toys on this client. I was explaining to the Esty as we were working on her client, how I call what I do a treatment and not a facial. When we were finished and this gal looked at herself in the mirror....she turned around and said "Well, I'm never getting a facial again, I only want treatments from now on". I loved it!!

  • Jamie Jacob

    That is so awesome!
  • Jamie Carson Ortiz

I have been seeing some amazing results with the electroporation. Clients love the feeling and they can SEE and FEEL a difference in their skin. My favorite is to combine the Radiancy LHE and Electroporation in the same treatment. =)

  • Shelley Hancock

Beautiful music to my ears Jamie!! This little toy had turned out to be something pretty effective and special. It's a strange sensation that is hard to put words to. One client said it feels like a octopus sucking on her face!! Now that's an interesting visual!

  • Jamie Jacob

I love my Time Master! Best investment I ever made! I keep getting messages from clients asking how often can we do this because my skin has never been better and "Wow, I can stop touching my face!"
  • Shelley Hancock

WhooHoo!!!! Thanks for sharing that Jamie.

  • Angela Brill

Wait what is the time master?
  • Shelley Hancock

  • Angela Brill

Do you think this would be wise instead of microcurrent? Not sure what to add first
