I came across this, I'd like to know what's your take on this?

"Your Sunblock May Increase Sun Damage!!! check the ingredients for oxybenzone – a common sunscreen ingredient – which boosts the production of dangerous free radicals in your skin after just 20 minutes of exposure to the sun !Natural zinc creates an effective barrier against the sun’s rays. And it starts working as soon as you put it on – not a half hour later like man-made chemicals.  ( Latest findings by University of California Research).

  • Rachael Pontillo

@Tara, yes those are issues I've written extensively about. Zinc oxide does have its shortcomings...the color (unless you get a tinted version) and it does have to be reapplied often...but really those chemical ones lose effectiveness sooner than they will admit. They only tell you to reapply less often because they know that applying more often is too dangerous because of the chemicals.  But they will never admit that.  Zinc oxide is also the only sun protection ingredient approved for babies under 6 months by the FDA.  Zinc oxide is my choice for sun protection for the body and in my facial day cream.

Considering bringing in a nice body wrap. Any suggestions.

Does anyone have a great, effective anti-aging skin care line that they are using? I currently use Bioelements and Skinscripts but I need something geared more towards my mature clients with more active anti-aging ingredients.
  • Andrea Stein

Ive been very successful with an Herbal or Aromatherapy type Body Wrap. Get Detoxification effects. Clients even feel they lose lbs and inches although I do not tout this. Great return with small investment!
  • Marti DeCoste

For a great line that's innovative, paraben free and full of active ingredients and results targeted check out IMAGE Skincare.  Love their Ageless The Max line with apple and plant stem cells.  No minimum order required and they do a lot of buy 6 get 1 free etc promo's...In regards to back bar, all of their peels are very effective and easy to use.  My favorite acne peel though is Glotherapeutics Salicylic 30%.  I recently stopped working for a Plastic surgeon after almost 7 years and I have used everything from Phenols to OBAGI Blue Peel.  Lately I also have been playing with the DermAware line of TCA White Out peels that are non medical. Hope this helps!
  • Cindy Greenwood

@Andrea - what product are you using for your wraps?
  • Kirsten Kayser

Also wanted to mention that I also use Golden Moor Mud for back treatments and body wraps. I like the lavender scented one. It's very detoxifying and relaxing for more clients. It can be messy though. You have to learn how to scrape off the excess with a spatula before letting them shower or using warm towels to towel off. I do another body wrap for detoxing/cellulite reduction in which I use grape seed oil or sweet almond oil as a carrier, and then mix in essential oils and mushroom extract. Before I wrap the client I use a scorpion brush to massage it into the skin. You just lightly massage the oils into the skin when the wrap is removed and you're done, no muss, no fuss.

I have 2 questions ladies, first is a green peel and a herbal peel basically the same thing? I have been hearing a lot about green peels and I was thinking about putting them on my treatment menu. Has anyone done one, or had one? What is a good product for this treatment? I'm looking forward to hearing your comments.

I found a wonerful body wrap by Reflections body wrap co. It is a contour wrap, made wholly from minerals, no preservatives or toxins and it really works. It is also very cost effective and easy to get started with package.
  • Pamela Miller

Flelicia, from what site do you buy these body wraps?  They sound amazing.
  • felicia medlock blair

The body wrap is by GLOBAL NATURAL WEIGH

    Is anyone from Indiana?

Hi, I am also new to this group. Has anyone had any experience with Dermaware product line?
  • Stevie Adamovsky

Can anyone recommend a great Pumpkin Mask? Also a Pumpkin Massage Cream would be nice too :) Thank You
  • Tara Carson

Hello! Can anyone recommend durable, yet soft and luxurious sheets? I made the mistake of purchasing flannel sheets and they got pills after the first wash! Also, does anyone have a preference between using a fitted sheet and using just a flat sheet for the bottom? It seems like there may be more options if I just use a flat sheet instead of fitted? Thanks for your help!
  • Marcia Kruse

I truly love the quality and performance of the sheets I bought from Zendals. I saw them as a vendor at the Las Vegas IECSC 2010 and purchased several items. The sheets are microfiber, silky smooth, and still look brand new. Clients often remark on the way they feel luxurious and comfortable.
  • Christy Brugger

Does anyone have any inside info on MD Forte? Are they going to be permanently replaced by vivite?
  • Cindy Greenwood

@Tara - I use a fitted sheet to hold my heating pad and fleece in place but otherwise I use just flat sheets. If you are on a budget you can get twin size flat sheets at walmart for $5 ea.  I use these instead of flannel during the warmer months. I've never had a problem with pilling on my flannel sheets.  @ Marcia - you seriously spent that much on sheets?!?!? Their massage table sheets are not as wide as I would like.  I would probably get bamboo sheets instead of those if I had that kind of money...they are soft, eco-friendly, and cheaper.
  • Tatiana Rose

@Jan- I think thats a great idea! I too was planning on a pumpkin facial for october. H2T (Head 2 Toe) has a great 30% glycolic pumpkin masque i was going to incorpoate but i have had trouble finding any other good pumpkin products. but its a great idea!
  • Diane Feeney

@Michele K, I have used Dermaware skincare in the past.  It is a reputable company and they have great products, but in my opinion, they have one to many pieces of skincare and some of which is expensive.  I have since switched over to Image skincare, which I absolutely love and my clients are happy with it also.  Their professional & home care products are very effective and affordable.
  • Barbara Wicklund

  • Maria Speckman

@Tara Try comphy sheets, they're beautiful and wash and wear well.  So soft and comfortable.  Your clients will ask where to buy them.
  • Pamela Gibson

I'm looking to add a really good makeup line to my practice primarily for retail but as much as I would love to invest in Iredale, I'm not thrilled with all their products and their initial order minimum plus monthly minimums are a bit out of my reach right now. Anyone using a line that they feel meets or exceeds the quality of Iredale?

  • Michele Kindberg

Glo Minerals is a fabulous line and my clients love it as well! No minimum order and all of the makeup is mineral based. They have 4 different types of foundations in a variety of shades. Check it out and let me know what you think. They can be found in many dermatologists and plastic surgeon offices. Great quality! Hope this helps.
  • Chere McCoy

Pamela why don't you try Only YourX?  NO minimum order.  First 90 days you get like 15% off everything and it WAY out performs Iredale.  I like it can add my aromatherapy no problems.
  • Pamela Gibson

Thanks Chere & Michele! I'm going to check out both lines.
  • Danielle George

As  to internet purchases I try to make myself available to clients as much as possible so that they see the ease of buying from me instead. Along with their personal contact I try to evaluate their skin and its needs and offer information catered to those findings. I find that being available, friendly and informative keeps them returning.

  • Chere McCoy

1st week  back from vacation and wow I have overdone and overbooked!  BIG mistake.  Got two new clients doing series facials and have three more waiting to sign up.  WARNING - don't overdue - it can really tax your body as well as your mind!!!

  • Heather Capitanich

Sounds like a blessing and a curse...Take care of yourself!

  • Andrea Stein

Benn there done that and you are absolutely rite!

  • Kimberly Lovato

    Hi,

Can anyone recommend a 10%  or higher) glycolic cleanser that does not leave your skin feeling dry?

  • Kim Midgett

@Kimberly I like Dermaware Wrinkle Free cleanser.  It is 15% glycolic.  My skin is more on the dry side so I only wash my face at night and I use this cleanser.  For someone with more oily skin I would reccommend Dermaware's Foaming Cream Cleanser (Contains salycilic but in a cream base so its not drying) in the morning and the Wrinkle Free glycolic cleanser at night.

  • Kimberly Lovato

    Thank you ;)

  • Summerr

@kimberly i like skinscript's glycolic cleanser 17%. I have nt noticed any drying and my skin is pretty sensitive
    .
  • Kimberly Lovato

    Great ! Thank you!

  • Tara Abbasnejad

    Hi
I'm suppose to purchase 2 different professional skin lines for our Dayspa, we're currently using dermalogica.  we're thinking of  getting at least one organic line and ...... The information out there is so overwhelming.
    Any suggestion?
  • Tara Abbasnejad

    Anyone worked with Murad product?

  • Cindy Greenwood

@ Tara. Yes I have used Murad. It is a very good product line. However I would not bring this into my business for two reasons...

first it is the line that Massage Envy now uses...and I would not want to be thought of as on the same level as them.

second is that Murad sells direct to public at stores like Ulta and Sephora (as does Dermalogica) so you would be reducing your ability to generate repeat retail sales.

  • Cindy Greenwood

Oh - and be sure to use the "add a discussion" box above rather than the add comment box.

  • Sheila Francis

@ Tara  There's a new natural botanical-based skin treatment that is the result of an accidental discovery in skin cancer research and is showing a 20-60% reduction in fine line, deep lines and EMERGING LINES in the 30-day Clinical Trial.  This product is breakthrough and estheticians and salons all over the country are offering it to their clients due to increasing demand.  Check out http://review.nerium.com  Great opportunity to capture marketshare in your area.

  • Cindy Greenwood

@ all - nerium is an MLM company.

    (avon, mary kay, arbonne,rodan fields).

don't be suckered by the hype that will soon be plastered all over discussion boards from the sellers and stick with quality professional products!
