OK great, thanks so much Lisa!! No, I haven't used it YET- but SOON! I am getting my esthetics studio set up and opening in the next week... so I am going to experiment with the enzymes on my rosacea friend since she's willing. :-) I can't wait!!
  • Shelley Hancock

I just used the coconut/papaya under the LED full face panel for 10 minutes. Cleaned her off and then another 10 minutes under the panel. Her skin looked FABULOUS afterwards!
  • Gina Williamson

Hi Lisa- would you ever use the Cranberry Turnover on a Rosacea client? I am asking b/c a friend works at a medi-spa where they use a 25% salicylic acid as a Rosacea peel. I'd love feedback on this. Thanks! :-)
  • Lisa VanBockern

No, please do not use the Cranberry Turnover on a rosacea client.  It would be too stimulating.  I suggest the Coconut/Papaya enzyme.
  • Gina Williamson

That's definitely my inclination- I was a little flabbergasted at 25% for Rosacea. I know salicylic is beneficial, but that seems really harsh.
  • Kimberly Dunnells

Hi I'm glad that I found you. I just had a 20% Cranberry turnover peel on some parts of my face 2 weeks ago. Since then I have a lot of nodules and redness on that area and pustules on my chin. Is this good? Is this just a lot of bacteria (p acnes) coming to the surface. How long will it last? Will it turn into hyperpigmentation? Please help!
  • Lisa VanBockern

Hi Kimberly - Could you call me at 480-543-1121 and we could discuss your peel.
  • Gina Williamson

Would you mind sharing what you two discuss on here? I would love to hear what's going on, what you advise, etc. Thanks!
  • Lisa VanBockern

Sure.  Everyone is different in responding to peels - I want to ask how the skin was prepped, how it was treated afterwards, medications, health history and that's just too much to ask on a blog.
  • Joanne Charron

I just placed my first Skin Script order...a small order but I do love that we can purchase the samples also... and I will receive protocal for spending a certain amount. I can't wait to try...I already have the girls that work with me lined up for services
  • Kimberly Dunnells

Regarding peel, I think I had some issues before the peel and the peel helped to bring it out to the surface. I also changed skin care regamin. I was using Mario Badescu which I think was clogging my pores. I changed to Bioelements (which is my fav) and only used it one day and can only ready see a difference. Skin is clearing up. This has been very frustrating since I am a licensed Aesthetician and know the secrets. I can treat my clients but can't see my skin close enough to treat myself. lol. By the way I'm in Maine.
  • Lisa VanBockern

Kimberly:  Does this comment mean that your skin is clearing up after the Cranberry peel?  The Cranberry peel is a 20% salicylic - you should expect flaking for 3-4 days and a reduction in the inflammation in the skin.
  • Kimberly Dunnells

Lisa, yes I do believe it is. It is starting to look healthier and the breakouts are getting less often. The reason why I got the peel is because of the breakouts- which oddly enough were only on my cheeks. Now hyperpigmentation is decreasing and I have purging breakouts on my chin. I think these resulted from getting a deep clean facial. It took about 2 weeks before the flaking was really apparent. Why would that be? I am interested in ordering some of this product for my treatment room but I want to learn about it first.
  • Lisa VanBockern

Hi Kimberly.  Glad to hear the skin is improving.  Some people peel more than others; some people it takes longer to peel also.  I don't have a hard and fast rule about the amount of days you can expect peeling.  I've had some clients still flaking 14 days after 2 layers of my TCA.  You can also spot treat your breakouts with the Cranberry Peel - you could do that often, every 2 weeks in your case.
  • Kimberly Dunnells

Lisa, thank you very much, you have been very helpful. I have an appt with my aesthetician in 2 weeks, should I do another deep cleanse facial with the cranberry peel or will that cause too much trauma to my skin and make me to have even more issues? Something inside me keeps saying that I need to leave my skin alone but I want to make it better. What do you think? I'm going to order the blueberry peel for my July special too!
  • Joanne Charron

I absolutely love the goji berry yogurt mask...I used it with my ultrasound on saturday and my client was very pleased. the enzymes have been a hit with my regulars. there are a couple that I will keep in my arsinal, one being the coconut/papaya and I think lemon zest also, but i love the idea of the seasonal enzyme facial. I usually use aromatherapy to kick off the new season, and these smell so good. My small investment in Skinscript has already paid for itself. very exciting!!
  • Lisa VanBockern

That is very exciting!  I love the phrase "a small investment has paid off".  It's my feeling that we don't have to "break the bank" or take out a small business loan in order to make a profit in this business.
  • Lynn Le

I read about skin script and I'm so intersted to try it but I don't see it carries anyway over east coast.  How can I get to experience this great products?
  • Lisa VanBockern

Hi Lynn Lee - you could join a webinar.  We hold them twice a month.  Visit www.skinscriptrx.com and look for the tab titled training - you can register for a webinar there.  Thanks for your interest!
  • Gina Williamson

Lisa- someone suggested that if I boosted an enzyme (say, the coconut pH 3.6) with one of your peels (say, lactic pH 1.63) they might equal out around 3? is this possible?
  • Gina Williamson

I know the glycolic cleanser is great/recommended for oily, acneic, normal skin... is it ever recommended for drier, aging skin? Perhaps on a 1-2 x/week basis??

tidbit: I have started using it to shave my legs with... WONDERFUL!!! it really exfoliates and makes my shave very smooth. I imagine it would also be GREAT for waxed legs to help keep the ingrowns down.

  • Katrina Kulm

I am loving the Dermafile! How much should I charge for a Dermafile Facial and Dermafile with peel to treat hyperpigmentation? Does it depend on the area, since I live in Cali. I want to add it to my menu of services soon.
  • Marcia Kruse

I'm new to the line, but I really like the Skin Script products I've used. The exfoliation webinar was exceptionally informative.
  • Gina Williamson

Curious- why is the retinol scrub NOT included in the mild acne kit?
  • Lisa VanBockern

Hi all - I've been on vacation, so I apologize for the untimely response.

Gina:  Regarding your question about the new ph by mixing the Coconut enzyme and Lactic peel, I have asked my chemist this question.  I will get back to you.

Regarding your question about the glycolic cleanser on dry, aging skin:  Absolutely!  I use it 2 times a week and it keeps away the fine lines, it gives my skin a fresh glow because I am shedding dull skin cells, and it minimizes my hormonal chin breakouts as long as I'm consistent about using it 2 times per week.  I use the Ageless Hydrating Serum every day to ensure I have proper hydration.

I love the idea of Glycolic cleanser after waxing!

Regarding the idea of a retinol scrub in the mild acne kit, please add it in!!!!  Putting kits together was a tough job - it's hard to fit every skin type with a kit, so please, please customize for your clients.

  • Lisa VanBockern

Katrina - glad to hear you like the derma file.  I think that is a nifty tool.  Pricing is difficult - it depends on how you use it in your treatment.  For me, it's about a 1-2 minute polishing on top of the enzyme.  If you use it dry and spend 10-15 minutes with it, of course if would be an additional charge.  Does any one else have comments on how much to charge?
  • Gina Williamson

THANK YOU Lisa!! I can't wait to hear what your chemist says!!

I hope you had a GREAT vacation!! :-D

Katrina- I am doing a Dermafile Treatment that is a stand-alone service, and charging $50 per session. WAYY cheaper than microdermabrasion, but still a decent price for me as a new esty/business owner- about a 30-40 minute service all told... I do a cleanse and a seaweed mask as well....

    any ideas on that??

  • Trish DiLallo

I am loving these products and all the ways to use them!  I am very curious about this dermafile..where do I get info/training?  I also want to make sure it is my scope of practice for NY - anyone know??
  • Gina Williamson

Trish- you can check out the website: dermafile.com to read up on it.

    I bought mine from shellyhancock.com

You would need to check your state laws on manual exfoliation. If you can do microdermabrasion, you can do the dermafile.

  • Lisa VanBockern

The protocol for the dermafile is to use it on dry skin; however, I like to use it during the last minute the enzyme is on the skin.  I use it right on top of the enyzme, ever so gently (no pressure applied), and the results are amazing.  Really, really soft skin with no irritation.  It's enzyme and mechanical exfoliation, which I love.
  • Lisa VanBockern

Gina - the chemist replied regarding your ph question of mixing the Coconut enzyme and the lactic.  Yes, it will bring down the ph, but it depends on how much of each product you use.  You could use ph test papers to measure the ph if you wanted to know.  Ph test papers are available on Amazon.com if you really wanted to know.
  • Gina Williamson

awesome! thank you Lisa!! I wonder if mixing the other enzymes with the coconut would lower their pH a bit, too.... enough to satisfy State Board?!

    hmmmmm!!!!! :-)

  • Lisa VanBockern

I think if you ph test the product mixed, then go to a state board meeting with your results, I think you would have a great case!  Contact me via e-mail: lisa@skinscriptrx.com and I could test the requested mixtures and let you know what the ph is.
  • Gina Williamson

ok... another question from ever-inquisitive moi! haha  Can the SS cleansers (obviously not the glycolic or blemish) be used to remove eye makeup as well? not in the facial- but for home use?
  • Katrina Kulm

Wow Gina, $50 sounds low since Microdermabrasion services here in Cali usually cost $120 and up. Sounds like you're doing it as a facial which is what I want to do. I am currently charging $90 for my facials. Should I charge the same as a Microdermabrasion treatment or lower? I would love to hear what everyone thinks..it's so new that I can't find any salon/spas online in my area to compare the prices.
  • Gina Williamson

It's low but it's also Cincinnati, OH..... I may bump it up over time but just starting I'm trying to get people interested. It's not really a facial... but I cleanse and then do the seaweed mask to calm.
  • Gina Williamson

I love that we can ship product directly to our client!! I had a friend who wanted the vita-c/green tea serum who lives out of state- so I was able to order it on my card, have it shipped to her, and charge her card to my Go Payment. easy peasy!!
  • Lisa VanBockern

Pricing is tough simply because of the city/area you live in, plus the type of environment you are in (e.g., spa, resort, medical spa, etc.).  So I think prices vary greatly.  Experience matters greatly too.  If you are profitable at the price you are charging and you are comfortable with the price you charge, kudos!!!  That's the point - make a living with the business we love.
  • Lisa VanBockern

Gina - yes, the Green Tea Cleanser and the Pomegranate Cleanser may be used as eye makeup remover at home.  During my facial, I put the Pomegranate creamy cleanser on cotton rounds and place them over the eyes while I do my skin analysis.  Then, I gently remove the eye makeup with the cotton rounds.  Works great!
  • Gina Williamson

LOVE that idea Lisa, thank you!!
  • Katrina Kulm

Gina and Lisa, I understand about the price would vary especially depending on the environment. It would be a new treatment for me as well and I'm now renting a room in a Spa (which I'm really happy about). I know one thing that concerns me is that if you make the price too low to start with, clients won't like it when you raise the price up higher. So I think I will just make it a little higher than my facials. Although I may do a special on it to introduce it as a new treatment, Would that be a good idea?
  • Lisa VanBockern

In today's economy I think the majority of consumers are looking for a "special" so the idea of starting higher and offering an introductory special is a great idea.  I think you have a good point about pricing; consumer spending is difficult to predict.  Me, myself, I purchase off the sale rack 90% of the time, but the other 10% of the time, I like to purchase Nordstrom's at full price.
  • Theresa

Lisa and Katrina I agree. Good points made. I follow this same approach.  It's more of a marketing tool and I still get a fair price for my services.  Consumers like to think they are getting a deal and see that what they are getting is valued at $$$$$.
  • Gina Williamson

Well, I feel like I missed the boat here... I already printed menu cards that I've been handing out with my lower prices trying to appeal to a "middle ground" of clientele..... how do you unravel from that?

    :-((

  • Theresa

Gina I wouldn't worry to much about it. You will have the opportunity to unravel it when you have your next set of cards printed. You could easily over time increase some of your services. I would not do all of them at once so it's not as noticeable. Your loyal clients will continue to come back to see you regardless of price.  For my loyal clients if they come see me every 4 weeks I offer them a membership price. A flat rate for most of my services.  This works out very well for me too, and I can count on them booking monthly instead of every 3 months or so when they can afford it.
  • Gina Williamson

Thank you Theresa- this makes me feel better. I am looking forward to the day when I have "loyal clients" LOL!!

Starting out can be very discouraging... just keeping the faith!! :-)

  • Lisa VanBockern

It took me a year to build my loyale clientele.  After a year I was fully booked (and that was in a good economy); I think adding value to the client is key; if I encountered a skin condition that I didn't know how to treat, I'd order a book on that skin condition and research until I had an answer.  I also have aestheticians that offer a special rate if the client will continue to book every month.  When you have passion, the $$$ will follow.
  • Shelley Hancock

Lisa...I'm with you regarding passion. I truly believe passion is why I'm so busy, not because I'm the best Esty around. The clients that walk through my door can feel the energy (passion) and they want some of it, they want to be around it. I've known some very knowledgable Esty's throughout my years in this industry and a lot of them just couldn't make it in business and I can tell you exactly why...their energy. Don't worry that you don't know everything. Like Lisa said, you can find the answer for them and they will respect you for that! Just have fun!
  • Lisa VanBockern

Gina:  I measured the ph of the Coconut enzyme mixed with the Lactic (I did 2/3 coconut and 1/3 lactic).  The coconut is generally a 4.38 ph, the lactic is a 1.63 ph.  The new ph with the combined product was around 3.2 ph.  So, yes, the combination definitely lifts the ph of product applied to the skin.
  • Andrea Stein

Hi Lisa, It was a pleasure meeting you this past weekend at the San Jose show! I really enjoyed Skin Scripts presentation and look forward to adding more of the products to my back bar!
