If anyone can help fill me in, I had a girl with tiny pores on the cheeks but still little pimples all over now if they isn't enough oils being secreted because of the small pores, how can she have all these pimples? And they were all over the lower cheek area nothing to extract. I was just thinking maybe from working outside sweating and not washing her face at night and then with the pillowcase not being changed and repeating the process :) she is 20 :)
Has this client been recently waxed? Small breakouts are a healing response post-waxing. Has there been a recent change in products? Could the skin be reacting to something? Possibly a reaction to sunscreen? I would recommend the following:
Blemish Control Cleanser (then the Green Tea Citrus Cleanser after the blemishes have cleared up)
2% Retinol Exfoliating Scrub 3 times a week
15% Vit. C Green/Green Tea Serum mixed with Ageless Skin Hydrating Serum
Light Aloe Moisturizer
Certainly, the client needs to wash her face after a day of being working outside. Also, pillow cases should be changed regularly.
No waxing, only the brows. I did explain all of that to her about at least cleansing and moisturizing at night For sure also told her about her pillow cases. I recommended all except the blemish control cleanser But all and all she does need to starting cleansing and doing better at her home care It helps to hear this and that I'm thinking on the right track . I hope she does! Thanks Lisa
Lisa, I noticed that you are going to be at the IECSC show in Ft Lauderdale, will you be holding any classes? I didn't see any on the brochure but wanted to ask you. I wasn't going to go to the show but I am not considering it because I would love to stop by the Skin Scripts booth :).
I haven't rec'd my brochure yet regarding the IECSC show in Ft Lauderdale, but glad that you made that post, Sheila. I'm so happy to hear that Skin Scripts will be there.
I just wanted to say thank you for the wonderful class today, you and your staff are amazing. I am so excited for the upcoming classes and webinars and I thank you so much for putting them together!
Sheila & Diane: Yes, we will be in Ft. Lauderdale. We will be in Booth 1309 and our 2 hr (condensed) class will be Sunday, Nov 4 from 9-11 am in Room 118. I can't wait to meet you!
Summerr - I appreciate your nice comments about the training; it was great to see you!!!
Thanks for shipping so fast Lisa! So glad I ordered the retail sampler with my enzyme peels. I did my first Lemon Zest enzyme peel facial yesterday and it was nice. Everything smelled clean and fresh. My client has melasma across her forehead and she was pleased with the results from just this one facial. I should have got the peel sampler so I could have boosted it for extra lightening, but I removed it from my shopping cart thinking I didn't need it. She didn't seem to feel much tingle like my other clients did with the pomegranate. Is it a less tingly enzyme? Or maybe she tolerated it differently ? Anyway, thanks for making great products for us!
Hi Robin - I'm so glad you like the products and that your client sees the difference!!! Regarding the boosting with the lactic, I ALWAYS encourage you to use the enzyme by itself on a client before boosting. Sometimes clients do just fine with an enzyme; I only boost with an acid when I feel I need the extra exfoliation and lightening. Here's a general guideline of tingliness for each enzyme:
Coconut and Raspberry - 1-2 tingle factor
Lemon - 2-3 tingle factor
Pomegranate - 4-5 tingle factor (can accelerate to a 6 or 7 after a few minutes)
Blueberry - 3-4 tingle factor
Pumpkin - 4-5 tingle factor
Passionfruit - 2-3 tingle factor, but red dermal warming
Just wanted you to know that I voted for Skin Script a few times on the American Spa Professional's Choice Awards survey I received yesterday :) You go!!!
Thanks for sending the Webinar for backbar product and retail! You are a such a great educator Lisa!! I love your products and I am looking forward to making the transition really soon!
Lisa...looking forward to seeing you this morning for your workshop at my training center! Boy, you and I can really pack a house (46 attendees)Kinda hoping we do have a few "no shows" this time around!! :-)
If you've never been to one of Lisa's worskhops, put it on your "must do" list when she comes to your town...she's fabulous!!
Hey Lisa!! I just purchased a Moderate Acne kit for a client that came in last week and has been battling Acne for the last 15 years and can't find a solution. Her acne is mostly to me what looks rash like (allergy related). She has gone for mineral testing and gotten on all kinds of supplements and is also receiving accupuncture for digestion/hormonal issues. I saw the same type of acne with my cousin and we put her on the mod kit and she had wonderful results in a little over a week...sooo what I am writing to ask is:
Should she start off using the retinol scrub in the am every day and the glycolic cleanser? I know I heard in the webinar to use gly only maybe 3 xs a week so ju7st checking. Also, to me, her face seems more on the dry side (nose/cheeks have larger pores) but no real clogged pores really, just this rash like acne with some cystic spots that occur all throughout the month (not just hormonal). Any suggestions? Also any suggestions for treatments?
I have heard that you will ship direct to a client, do we just specify in the comment box and if that is the case will you exclude the packing list with pricing? She is moving in 6 weeks to Chile...do you or will you ship out of the country?
Thanks for your help! I am excited to get her on this product, I know everyone skin is different but I am confident she will see results.
Shelley - we had a fabulous time in Foster City today! Great questions. I am impressed with the skill set of these estheticians. I had a great time talking skin care; thanks for hosting! Thanks for jumping in with the equipment as well - as you know I love enzymes, in addition to your modalities.
Sheila: This moderate acne kit is something I created years ago and I'm not sure it's for everyone because it is so aggressive. Please check in with your client at least once a week to ensure we aren't over drying the skin. Regarding the protocol on how often to use the glycolic cleanser and retinol scrub, this is your discretion as the esthetician. I, ideally, start a client on these product everyday for up to 10 days, then I back down to 2-3 times per week. It's hard to prescribe a professional treatment without seeing her. I could either go with glycolic peels, coconut enzymes, or pomegranate enzymes. Could you call me at 480-543-1121 and we can discuss this individual case further?
Regarding drop shipments, yes we do offer drop shipments. If you are ordering on-line, change the shipping address to the customer's name and address. In the comment section, just mention this is a drop shipment and we will not include an invoice. We prefer NOT to ship outside of the country; it requires customs and extra shipping fees. We'll leave the out-of-country shipment to the esthetician.
Thanks for the info Lisa and I will definitely keep you posted! When she came in for her first treatment I did the pom enzyme and finished the treatment with some High Frequency and when I saw her yesterday, I noticed most blemishes went down, but she could still feel them under the skin. I didn't do any extractions because there was the combo of the rash like bumps and then cystic where nothing to extract...she was surprised I didn't start digging away. I may order her the agless serum for some added hydration and I did tell her I would check in about a week. Thanks for the info as always! I appreciate your quick response!!
I have a question about the passion fruit enzyme...my client had ipl today and is coming for a facial in one week. Would the passion fruit enzyme be the best to use to help stimulate collagen/cells, or should I use the lemon zest or even the coconut for a more milder effect?
Hi Koren:Great question! Since the client's main concern is most likely pigmentation (hence the IPL treatments), I would lean toward the Lemon Zest to brighten the skin. Actually, that was one of the main reasons I created the Lemon Zest was for clients between IPL treatments.
I had a client ask what the heavy water was exactly in the cucumber toner. Im not really sure how to answer that so i told her I waould find out I did explaine the hyaluronic acid and its benefits as well as the fatty acids . But heavy water? Thanks all
Heavy Water bonds with the skin and other connective tissues more strongly than regular H20, and is more viscous, providing higher levels of hydration than simple water, because of its higher resistance to evaporation. It reduces cellular stress and assists to protect against bacteria, viruses and radiation. The higher viscosity of heavy water allows it to have a higher plumping factor, especially when used in conjunction with other moisture-attracting ingredients. Because its heavier nuclear mass makes it "wetter," D2O can provide additional hydration to the skin and is especially helpful for post-laser hydration.
I was wondering if anyone might have the eye and lip treatment service protocol? I'm looking for the one that uses the peptide eye serum and cream with I believe the seaweed mask?
Thanks :)
I know that the Skin Script products use natural ingredients but I am feeling the need/demand to offer an organic facial (to pair with the organic cafe that is at the wellness center I rent from). I know that I can say that the products have natural ingredients but can't claim they are organic of course. Do you have any Organic Lines that you think would pair nicely with Skin Scripts products? I have been looking at quite a few and one that I keep coming back to is Image's Ormedic line. If you have any advice or suggestions that would be great! Thanks Lisa!!
I know the passion fruit tightens and gives a healthy glow...but would it makes any sense ever to bump up the passion fruit with some lactic peel? I love the brightening effects of the lactic and the fact that it's great for those tight clogged pores so I wondered if you could ever do that or if it would make sense to.
Would you ever add serums to any of the enzymes to cut the intensity or would that actually make them more intense?
Sheila - yes, I boost my Passionfruit all the time. I advise estheticians to do this ONLY when you are comfortable with this enzyme. It has an intense, dermal warming, red effect on the skin. I don't want to scare any of my estheticians with the intense warming/red. Regarding adding serums to the enzymes to cut the intensity, absolutely, you could do this. I also suggest mixing in the Goji Berry Mask to cut the intensity of enzymes if needed.
Amber - please e-mail me at lisa@skinscriptrx.com and I will e-mail you the eye/lip protocol.
So I just took a class by Circadia and was told that you don't need to use toners anymore because something to do with PH levels and alcohol. Lisa what are your thoughts? Sorry I can't remember his exact reason.
Oh my gosh - that is not my opinion at all. I love toners. Our cucumber toner really hydrates the skin - lifts the pH up after cleansing and exfoliating. Why do I feel this way? I use it every day and night. If I skip this step my skin starts to feel tight. One of the great ingredients in our cucumber toner is heavy water. Here's a run down on heavy water:
Heavy Water bonds with the skin and other connective tissues more strongly than regular H20, and is more viscous, providing higher levels of hydration than simple water, because of its higher resistance to evaporation. It reduces cellular stress and assists to protect against bacteria, viruses and radiation. The higher viscosity of heavy water allows it to have a higher plumping factor, especially when used in conjunction with other moisture-attracting ingredients (like hylauronic acid). Because its heavier nuclear mass makes it "wetter," D2O can provide additional hydration to the skin and is especially helpful for post-laser hydration.
Lisa - I'm remembering what his view was now, that the only reason why a person would need a toner was if their cleanser was to high in PH and the toner was needed to balance skin ph. That most toners are alcohol based and that is why you get the sting.
The skin scripts toner is Amazing for Hydration. I have very dry skin and I also have to use it everyday,it just makes my skin feels more nourished ,plump and hydrated Love It!!!!
I love this toner, it has changed my skin's hydration a lot! I always explain to my clients that it is not a typical toner (like an astringent) rather a hydrating toner that not only lifts unwanted residue but deeply hydrates and protects the skin as well as allowing for better absorption of serums and moisturizers!
Just an idea, if your looking for small holiday items to give to your clients, maybe a sample of the hydrating toner with a cleanser or serum would be nice or even making up a little set for them based on their skincare needs. I received my holiday cranberry sugar scrub and vanilla mask. I love it! I had a customer from last Saturday call me and tell me that was the best facial ever. She said she looked almost 20yrs younger (exaggerating of course), but loved the way her skin looked and felt. Even her husband commented how on how nice her skin looked. The funny thing is, it was such a simple facial. No microderm or dermafile or any acids added to the scrub. I did use the hydrating toner a lot during that facial, could that have something to do with it. Anyways, thank you for providing such a spectacular skincare line. I look forward to meeting you in November.
I know Skin Scripts had little pouches we could purchase last year for the holidays. they were really nice and pretty too. I wonder if they will be offering them this year as well? HINT HINT!!
What amazing feedback! Diane: Thank you for your testimonial on the Cranberry Sugar Cane Enzyme. Your client's comment about "best facial ever" is exactly what I would like to hear from each and every customer (obviously your skill and product have come together to make that happen). I feel good that Skin Script can provide product that gets your clients excited and happy about their skin.
Lizabeth: Regarding the toner, like all mentioned below, it really is about hydration. Our cleansers tend to be more on the acidic side (to allow penetration of active ingredients) rather than the alkaline side (which can be drying).
Hi Kimberly - we are planning on bringing the Chocolate Mask back (seasonally) for Valentine's Day. I anticipate announcing/offering it January 1st. A lot of people have been asking for that one.
What type of protocol would you recommend for someone that has dry skin but breakouts? Also, what about dry skin with purple colored acne scarring? I have a few clients like this. Would you get them on pre/post peel kit and then use the 8 week hyperpigmentation protocol or the one you sent recently for the pitted type scarring? I want to make sure I am not drying them out too much. Thanks Lisa! Loving the webinars.
Hi Sheila: This is a great question because I think it's critical that we choose the right type of exfoliants for each skin type. Basically, with dry skin, I avoid salicylics. I agree, we don't want to overdry the skin as we will make the problem worse.
For dry skin, I would lean toward either the Pomegranate Cleanser or the Green Tea Cleanser, Glycolic Cleanser and Retinol Scrub used 2-3 times per week, Cucumber Toner, Ageless Hydrating Serum, Vit C, Ageless Skin Moisturizer and SPF. For professional treatments, I would alternate glycolic and lactic peels (you could spot treat with the Cranberry Turnover Salicylic peel), or you could use the TCA for a more aggressive approach. The TCA contains azaleic which helps with hormonal acne, as well as pigmentation.
For the purple scarring, ideally you use a laser to break that up. However, Dave Waggoner of my office says it is blood waiting for the fibroblast to produce more collagen to reduce that redness/purple. It's a matter of time and healing. However, glycolic peels will help stimulate collagen and reduce that redness. I think the reds/purples are the hardest to treat. And yes, the pitted acne scarring protocol would work great on this scenario you just described (both for the acne and the scarring).
Glad you are loving the webinars. Acne is tomorrow! We'll be discussing the pitted acne scarring protocol tomorrow.
Thanks Lisa! I did notice after the fact that the protocol for scarring did say colored scarring too so sorry for not reading properly!!
I have another question for you.
I have a client with Melasma...she is having engagement photos done in about 4 weeks and peeing is not really an option. I suggested to have her come in this week and we do a lactic peel facial on her to see if we can't get some brightening. She wants to look and feel like she has beautiful skin...so this was what I thought would help brighten her Thoughts or would you do something different? I will also be spray tanning her the week of the photos too.
As far as pre wedding...she is getting married in March and I was going to treat her with the 8 week protocol and the pre and post peel kit. Would you suggest maybe starting that protocol in Dec and that way she will be done peeling and everything by march and just maintain results with the post peel kit? I am not sure her skin type as I haven't seen her as a facial client yet. Thanks for all of your advice!!

Lisa, I am working with a client that has melasma and I have just purchased the pre/post peel kit (well kindof...all of the same products except not the retinol scrub as she has a clarisonic and the light aloe moisturizer over the pomegranate. I also had her purchase the vitc serum and ageless serum and eye peptide.
My question is...last week I had started her with a lactic peel because it was my first time with her and I know lactics are pretty safe and we didn't have her on the home care yet...Sat I will be giving her a quick glycolic peel and she will get started with homecare. I am confused with the homecare part because if we are giving her treatments every week how do you determine pre and post peel homecare procedures? How many days after the peel can she change back to the pre peel routine? Does that make sense? Or is that more for treatments that are spread weeks apart? If so, can you recommend homecare protocol when doing the peel series where you are spacing them one week apart? I had thought it was usually about 3-5 days post peel before going back to normal routine for light peels and with more aggressive once peeling had subsided.
Hi Sheila - with these light peels (glycolic or lactic) I do not modify their homecare, unless necessary. I only modify homecare when it comes to the TCA peel in this series and they are physically peeling. To modify their homecare, I have them change to only using their gentle cleanser, moisturizer and spf. Once their skin has finished peeling and they feel the skin is healed, I have them resume their regular homecare, especially the glycolic/retinol pads to lift pigment. Does this make sense?
Also, regarding the lactic and glycolic where she hasn't prepped for those peels with homecare - you might consider extending the series because she wasn't on the homecare. With series of peels, it's the homecare that can be the most critical part. To clarify my protocol,
Week 1 - client starts homecare (prepping one week prior to any peel)
Week 2 - client receives lactic or glycolic peel
Week 3 - client receives lactic or glycolic peel
Week 4 - client receives 2 layers of TCA
Weeks 5-7 let the skin rest and modify homecare to gentle cleanser, moisturizer and spf until the skin has healed and finished flaking.
Week 8 - client receives 4-8 layers of TCA. Modify homecare to gentle cleanser, moisturizer and spf until the skin has healed and finished flaking.
The fact that the client hasn't started homecare until the beginning of the 2nd treatment is going to delay the results.
Hi Lara: I'm not sure that a breakout would specifically be attributable to Vitamin C (l-ascorbic acid), but maybe something in the formula? If you are certain that it is the Vitamin C, then I would remove it from her regimine. Maybe replace it with the Ageless Hydrating Serum.

Has this client been recently waxed? Small breakouts are a healing response post-waxing. Has there been a recent change in products? Could the skin be reacting to something? Possibly a reaction to sunscreen? I would recommend the following:
Certainly, the client needs to wash her face after a day of being working outside. Also, pillow cases should be changed regularly.

Hey Lisa! I have two questions for you.

Thanks!!
