9 Effective Natural Remedies For Gum Swelling

Many people take care of their teeth but absolutely forget about gum health. The health of your gums is not less important than the health of the teeth. The gums hold teeth in place and hide the root of the teeth. Gum conditions may cause root exposure that contributes to teeth sensitivity and even tooth loss. Although professional dental care is important for both teeth and gum health there are many home remedies that may improve your gum health.

Below are 9 potent natural remedies that may prevent and relieve symptoms of gum conditions.

1. Hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is an antiseptic that has good antibacterial properties. Rinsing your mouth with hydrogen peroxide may help you relieve irritation and swelling of the gums. It kills bacteria that provoke gum disease. You can mix hydrogen peroxide with water 50/50 and rinse your mouth with this substance.

2. Green tea

Green tea is filled with antioxidants that may help reduce gum inflammation. This tea relieves the body’s inflammatory response to bacterias in the mouth. Thus, green tea diminishes the inflammation that damages your gums. Green tea is also filled with polyphenols that inhibit the bacteria’s growth in the mouth. It is recommended to consume green tea without sugar for maximum health benefits.

3. Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil has powerful antibacterial properties. This essential oil helps control the bacteria in your oral cavity decreasing the risk of gum disease and tooth decay. Tea tree oil prevents plaque buildup associated with periodontal disease and may contribute to receding gums. You can mix it with water and pull your mouth with this solution a few times a week. However, if you have severe gum disease it is better to consult your family dentist.

4. Salt water

Salt water is probably the simplest and the most available way to relieve gum inflammation. Salt water prevents bacteria in the mouth from growing and eliminates bacteria that already persist in the mouth. Prepare a cup of warm water and add a teaspoon of salt. Rinse your mouth with salt water for a few seconds at least twice a day.

5. Lemongrass oil

6. Sage

Sage contains an anti-inflammatory compound that may soothe your inflamed gums. Rinsing your mouth with sage on a daily basis may lower the levels of bacterias and plaque in your mouth. Add some sage in the cup of boiling water and let it cool. Rinse your mouth with this substance to relieve gum inflammation.

7. Coconut oil

Coconut oil pulling is an effective remedy to reduce the number of harmful bacteria in your mouth. Swishing your mouth with a solution of coconut oil and water acts as a soap. It counteracts the growth of new bacterias and fights persistent ones. Pulling your mouth with coconut oil every morning for 10 minutes may reduce the risk of gum conditions significantly.

8. Turmeric paste

Turmeric has great anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Applying a paste made of turmeric can help relieve gingivitis symptoms. Mix a teaspoon of salt with a teaspoon of turmeric powder and a half teaspoon of mustard oil. Rub this paste onto your gums twice a day to feel the relief.
