Since I'm in business for myself I sometimes find that I have no one to brainstorm with about business issues.  So, I'm reaching out to all of you.  How do you handle clients that ask for things outside the box?  Example:  I just ran a special offer that was pretty generous.  Purchase of complete skin care system and receive a high-end service comps.  Now clients are asking for other deals that are outside of this offer.  Basically they want free services for purchasing their regular 1 or 2 product?  Hmmm.  Any feedback would be appreciated.  Sometimes my knee-jerk reaction is that I am a small, one-person business trying to grow, not a corporation who could easily entertain their request.  Thank you.

Hi Brenda. I'm also on my own & often use free add-on services as incentive. For example, if a client spends $50+ on product then I show my graditude by offering them their choice between a lip, eye or neck treatment with their service. I also use the 'buy 5 treatments get the 6th one free' approach when booking a series for micro or glycolic. Does the line you use/retail give you free samples to hand out? Do they sell travel-size containers? I give a free sample with each treatment & tend to hand out travel-size bottles of either cleanser, toner, moisturizer or SPF when a client is paying for one of the higher end services.
GREAT ideas, Celina! Thanks for sharing. =)

I love this group! I am new new new. I just opened Jan 1st, it is only me.

I have put up several deals online:

-$20 for checking in via FB (the more people see me, the better)

-$10 for every client you refer (If a person comes in and says their friend recommended me, I will call and say thank you and let them know they have credit... hoping that they book an appointment),

-$15 coupon on google places (must be printed and you must get a facial + buy product)

Not one single person has asked for a discount and the only one I have given out so far is the -$10 client referral.

I'm sorta bummed that no one bites at these. I do not offer them verbally, I feel if they wanted it, they would look for it or ask for it.

Also, since I do want to get regulars I have just put together a new "package" system. Buy 4 of any service in ADVANCE and get 2 free... What do you think of this one? I have not posted it yet anywhere?

So many fantastic ideas, ladies!

I have also recently started my own practice and I am looking for ways to build clientele. Other than these great incentives, do you have ideas for networking or marketing that won't break the bank?

Thanks!

Julie, network your butt off.  Go to everything you can find in your city.  Most networking events don't cost, maybe price of breakfast or something.  You can look events up in your local newspaper or on-line.  Chambers, BNI, NAWBO, etc.  Word of mouth is your best advertising and the least expensive.  60% of your marketing budget should be spent on existing clients.  Give them lots of free samples and they will spread the word.  When you pay for print advertising you are throwing money at those you HOPE will come to you.  You still need to do print advertising but be choosy and don't spend your entire budget there.  Hope this helps.

Hi Ladies, this post from two years ago, but I’m sure glad I found it! I was thinking about offering free services to clients who purchase a certain amount of products, and I was wondering if it was a good idea, and now I feel confident moving forward. So, thanks for sharing!
