I should add about doing the lashes: I do put both pads under the eyes at the beginning of the service. First I apply some petroleum jelly lightly under the eyes and on the top of the cheek (careful not to get on lower lashes). I use two pads, applying a drop or two of Aveda's calming composition oil between. I have the client look up at the ceiling and place the pads under each eye. They gently close their eyes and just leave them closed - no squinting :) The oil helps the pad stay in place as well as protecting the skin from product. Then I begin one eye at a time.

I use Godefroy, but not the 28 day (well, named that)...but the professional Godefroy which is a kit of 20 applications with color capsules and developer. I usually start with 1/2 capsule and a capful of developer - apply approx. 1 1/2 min. adjusted after that as needed. I use a disposable mascara brush to apply and that works well. I dampen cotton balls for removal of product. For lashes I like to use Roux and I do use pads under the eyes. After applying the product first tint using a disposable mascara brush then the developer with a mascara brush,  Both of those bottle 1 and bottle 2 are liquid. I do not wipe it off. It dries quickly (a few minutes) and the client is free to go. If needed I can use the bottle of tint remover for skin (included). I do one eye at a time in case someone is extra sensitive or squints or for one reason or another product seeps in a tad; it is easier to deal with one eye at that point. Eyes are always closed when I apply, brushing the product through the lashes. I remove the undereye pad and check cleanup if there is any product visible on the skin, but still have them keep the eye closed. Then I apply to the other eye. When I have completed the second eye I wait about 2 or 3 minutes before instrucing the client to gently and slowly butterfly or flutter their eyes open - to keep gently blinking (not a sqint) and that it is not unusual for the eyes to feel a bit like when you add eye drops - a little sting, but it is quickly gone. the lashes may still be a bit damp, so I asked them not to rub their eyes. I have liked using this product for lashes and I always use black.

Denise- I just colored 7 brows and 5 lashes yesterday using the Godefroy 28 day mascara product. My local "State Beauty Supply" store only had black and dark brown, so I bought one of each. I used it first on myself in the morning, since I'm only familiar with the "Intensive" line of tints, and using a disposable mascara wand. I applied it to my eyelashes and brows using dental/braces cleaning wands. The wands are intended to clean between teeth, but they look like the eency-weensy-ist(sp?) mascara brushes in the world. They have little yellow plastic stems to hold onto. I bought them at Meijer grocery store for around $2.75 for 40. The brand was "GUM" and they were incredibly easy to use, especially to get the tiny eyelashes at the corners of the eye. I have had an etsy I worked with apply the Intensive tint to my lashes before, but it was awful. Ten minutes with your eyes closed with chemicals on them is long enough to really start freaking out because you want to open your eyes so bad, and I could feel the peroxide seeping into the corner of my eye. The Godefroy brand has a ONE MINUTE developing time after you have first applied tube #1 colorant, and tube #2 activator, regardless if you are using it on lashes or brows. I removed my contact lenses and did my lashes one eye at a time WITH MY EYES OPEN. I didn't apply petroleum jelly on the lids, or use the under eye protectors. With the short processing time, my eyelids weren't stained(even though I got it all over myself.) I felt a stinging sensation for a half a second when I got a smudge on my inner lid. Other than that, completely painless, blinking as often as I needed to. One minute of processing time, then wipe 2 times with damp cotton ball, then once with dry(eyes closed.) As for using the wands on brows, they're great because you can coat the hairs without getting it all over the skin underneath. I processed the full minute and they were DEFINATELY dark brown. When I applied on a client wanting a light brown tint, as soon as I finished applying activator to second brow, I immediately removed color from first brow, then second brow, allowing less than 15 seconds of contact time. Perfect results! However, on silver hair, I would go with light brown with a longer processing time to penetrate the resistant greys. Keep a paper plate close by in case you need more product. This way you can dispense more product onto the plate and not double dip your tubes or have to use a new wand. Whatever you do, don't let the activator tube become contaminated with the #1 colorant tube, or it will be useless.

Thank you again , Sally where do you order this product and is there such thing as an organic tinting solution? About California restrictions, I am in New York, and I do have a cosmetology license and esthetics also. Now I don't know if I can tint in NY I will call and you all know probably would take hours! To find out. Thanks again. Has anyone tried universal companies tinting solution?

I love tinting brows :)  The product I like to use is by Godefroy. Light brown, Medium brown, dark brown and black are the colors I keep on hand; the two I listed first are the most often used. When both services are being done, I tint before waxing. I usually start with 1/2 of the capsule of tint and a capful of the developer that comes in the professional brow tinting kit - mix it well - I like to apply it with a disposable mascara brush, then I use Q-tips to gently wipe around the brow so there is no product outside the area you want to tint. I wait one and a half minutes on a new client, doing one brow at a time (repeat, this is on a new client) before removing the tint with a dampened cotton ball (I always seem to need two cotton balls each time I wipe the tint off). At this point you can check the shade of tint. If it is not as dark as the client wants, apply more tint for about 30 seconds at a time until you get the right depth of color. Keep track of the total time and make sure the skin is dry before you apply tint (otherwise it tends to bleed, like lipstick). You might need to apply, wipe off, and reapply a couple times. Clients vary, but usually with this product a few minutes is sufficient. Once you get the result you want, do the other eye for the full amount of time (do keep in mind you are not removing and reapplying so maybe take off a slight bit of time to adjust). Also and often just the ends of brows will need some additional time with tint. Afterward, you may decide that the full capsule of tint for a particular client will be appropriate. This may sound like a lot of steps, but once you know how much time is needed on either the full or the full and "brow ends" keep a record of which tint color, how much of the capsule to use and the timing for that client. Your next appointment will be simple. A tint remover (for skin) can be used right after tinting with a Q-tip if needed. The tints last about 2 weeks. Some client's feel they get a little longer.

I have had excellent results and lots of happy clients.

I find that universal does the best job providing easy to use stable products that work well. I still work with a few hair dressers that insist on using hair dye for eyebrows. An interesting side note is in sometimes have clients who want to lighten their brows. Any thoughts on that? Tanya

Hello ladies,

Here is what California has to say about brows:

Eyebrow Beautification (25 hours of Technical Instruction and 50
Practical Operations)
The subject of Eyebrow Beautification shall include, but is not
limited to, the following issues: Eyebrow shaping and hair removal
techniques, hair analysis, waxing, tweezing, manual or electrical
depilatories.
They do not specifically disallow brow tinting, or at least I am not able to find it.  As long as you are not using a permanent tint (dye) and as long as is it FDA approved, I believe you are ok.  If you find something different, please let me know.
