Hi everyone!  Something I've wanted input on for a while.  How is everyone doing extractions?  I have a tool at home, but don't like using it on other people as I don't feel I was properly trained to use it.  I have learned a finger extraction technique from IDI that works really well and I am comfortable using.  Let me know how you do them and why.  Thanks!

We have the BT Micro ultrasonic spatula, I have to find out if it has that setting used to do extractions and if so, practice with that.

I have the same spatula..I use it on the peel setting and it works well.  I haven't tried the other settings yet

I personally enjoy the using the finger extraction technique at the moment. I have a comedone extractor tool but get a little iffy about using it on others. BT Micro ultrasonic spatula is going to be my route I think coming up here soon.

I use my fingers also, haven't been a fan of extracting tools.  I just bought the BT Micro ultrasonic spatula and I love it.  It's easy to use, it's small and it has worked wonders!

Owning an acne clinic, I do extractions all day long.  I just don't see how people get out blackheads with their fingers and especially when there are a lot of them, you have to move quickly!  I use a simple round-end extractor size 00 and sometimes size 0 from Cosmopro (and they are inexpensive - $10).  It gives me the perfect leverage to get out even the deepest blackheads!

fyi - I don't extract the nose at all - those are not blackheads, they are sebaceous filaments and are meant to be there.

Here's the link: Round End Extractor size 00

I also have a youtube video of an extraction demo I did at the Long Beach show last September.

ps - Jodi - this would've been a great discussions in the Acne Specialists group

Thanks Laura!  We can move it over there, or I can start one over there if you like!

It doesn't matter - just saying for future reference.

What products do you use to prepare the skin for extraction, and after extraction?

I usually do two layers of a mild chemical peel, do extractions, tone and sunscreen.  They won't do their homecare that night, but start again in the morning.

Thanks Laura!

no sharps allowed in our state!

They are okay in Forida?
