Sheets & Towels

California is having a water shortage and I was wondering if there is any way to avoid so much laundering! But I don't want to cheapen my treatment. Can you share what you do? This is what I use for each client:

2 sheets- 1 under/1 over

2 towels- 1 under/1 over

1-2 facial towels

1 terry cloth body wrap

My facials range from $100-150. I was thinking of cutting down by having my $100 clients only remove their blouse and bra straps and tuck them under a towel and use one towel under their head and 1 warm towel facial wrap. Eliminate the body wrap and top sheet. Maybe just throw a blanket over their clothes since these clients are strictly facial.

Thoughts?

Hi Betty Bliss,

It's so great that you are taking this important step to do your part. The situation in Cali is serious and I'm sure that your clients won't feel cheated that you have made an adjustment. You could actually highlight this eco conscious behavior as a selling point. I have glanced at this post before and really gave it some thought. This may be an expensive solution but how about paper rolls like you would use for waxing then a tasteful plain beach towel over that. The crinkling sound should be minimized by the towel and you keep your table linen hygienic and clean underneath.

You can definitely dispense with the body wrap if they are getting under the sheets. Unnecessary.

Maybe you could offer the option for those who might like to save water to do as you say and omit getting between sheets? Like a check-box on your intake form. Also, how do you get away with just 1 or 2 facial towels? I use 5 hot towels in a facial, plus one dry towel under their head and one to wipe my hands while I work... do tell!

A couple of month ago, I started using disposable sheets. One under, one on top and the cover. First I didn't like them but somehow clients notice and said oh much hygiene! At the end it is cheaper than washing, folding and detergent. I still use my towels because nothing replaces a warm facial towel or mittens. And I can never find the necessity to use a wrap? Client is under the sheet anyways especially if you step out of the room to give them privacy. All the best.
