Just wondering because I am beating myself up over it now. Have any of you ever had a bad practical experience while seeking a job? I had a practical two days ago for a Massage Envy location as an Esthetician. I have no working experience yet so I really had my heart set on starting here. I was told to come in to do a presentation as to sell one of their products to a client. I was told if that went well I would do a practical later. After the presentation I immediately had to go into doing the practical which was a 30 minute facial on the lead Esthetician. I was so nervous and scared no less since it has been a while since I gave a facial. The massage medium to use was really drying and I had to keep getting more product to keep the massage going therefore lost contact a few times. Then at the end I forgot to apply the eye cream she suggested because it was put off to the side and I didn't see it. So she said I would hear from them later. Needless to say because those were bad mistakes I won't be getting a call back for the next interview. Those were stupid mistakes and I should have done better now I can't let it go because I wanted to start my career there so bad. Anyone have a story to share?

Hi Candice. Don't beat yourself up to badly! I think most of us have had bad interviews and practicals. The International Dermal Institute has courses and DVD's that are very helpful. After I got my License I took a few of their classes starting with Internation Skin Care Techniques class and also purchased the DVD. I review the DVD just to refresh and I practice on a styrofoam head to practice on. I cut out circles of paper and labeled them with all the products I will be usiing and set them up in the correct order Dermal Inst. also had dvd's on waxing, exfoliating, etc. It is a great company for education.
Don't be afraid to go out there and interview again. There are other companies like Massage Luxe, Hand & Stone or other local beauty salons. Hang in there and good luck!
My ONLY practical I forgot to start the steamer, was using a product line nobody knew anything about there, and had TWO people walk in on us trying to find the restroom. LOL I got the job but I think it was because they didn't have anybody else.
Do NOT beat yourself up over these kinds of mistakes. It's utterly nerve wracking to do a practical. Heck, I don't even like working on fellow Esties because I find it nerve wracking.
The trick is practice and the more you do it the better you get at it. Hang in there and work on everybody you know.
Also, I had an Esty refuse to hire me once because I was better in every aspect of my knowledge, massage, and product application than she was. It made her crazy mad. lol Do NOT take stuff like that personally. You don't want to work there if they are not going to encourage you to increase your knowledge.
Don't beat yourself up! It happens to all of us. I currently work at Massage Envy in Massachusetts. They hire only Type-7 Estheticians. Was that something they mentioned?
Good luck to you and don't be nervous.
