Cynthia,

The only listed common side effect is diaphoresis (excessive sweating) - so if she is complaining about being excessively sweaty and having an an increase in sebum production you can always address that.  Since the med specifically acts on serotonin levels in CNS, its unlikely that the active ingredient is the culprit.  She may, however, be experiencing issues related to the fillers used to make the pill.  I had a patient not too long ago that had a new onset of painful acne cysts on her jaw line that ended up being attributed to supplements she was taking and her allergy to the ingredient and the way that the supplements mimicked testosterone like effects.

Another "trick" we use in the derm setting is recommending that all of our acne patients (regardless of grade) supplement with 5000 mg of B5.  It, in a way, acts like a healthy form of accutane - it helps to regulte sebum production and there is no risk of toxicity because it is water soluble.  Just a thought for this client of yours! :)

Thank you fo the information. =)

Does it make people edgy or hyper to take that much?  I just read that the regular daily requirement is only 5mg for most people.  If it does cause the kind of vitamin b jitters we hear about, doesn't it seem like a no-go for an anxiety patient?
