Hi everyone I am a certified aesthetician in Toronto and have recently started working from home. When in school, we always used Dermalogica and i liked the results but I do not think that am ready to buy their membership at this time. Can anyone suggest another skin care line that is affordable, gives good results and possibly has a display unit that i can put in my home based spa. Any other syggestions are also welcomes. Another question i have is that how do I compete with people who are providing basic facials for as low as $15??? This drives me nuts....

Most of the lines will give you a cost per treatment so that is really nice and most treatments are going to cost around 5-$15 depending on the line.  I started with Glotherapeutics, love the line, shipping is high but the products themselves are affordable, slowly transitioning into Skin Scripts, phemononal line, great results, $5 shipping, no min order, samples easily available, education is outstanding and the customer service is top notch!!  I also have some Image, line affordable and like the line, shipping is a bit high...but all three of these lines have comparable prices.  Probably the people that are doing for so little are not looking to make a profit bnut just get business and get their name out there.  I don't knwo that any of these lines have a display necessarily but there are so many easy ways to make your own display....if you want any ideas, that is what we are all here for!!

Thank you for the detailed information Sheila. I really appreciate your help. I will look into these lines and see which one works for me :)

anytime Nav!  Keep us posted please!  I think the most imp thing is support and education.  Make sure who ever you choose offers this.

I've recently opened an account with Skin For Life.  I have extremely sensitive skin (eczema) and very few products are both gentle and effective enough for me.  This product line is outstanding AND affordable.  Their customer service was awesome, too!  As for the $15 facial, well I believe "you get what you pay for".  Your education, experience and reputation as an esthetician, as well as the quality of products you use, will not only help you determine what your price point should be, but will also attract clientele that are seeking quality skin care and results. Also, beware the guest who is seeking a $15 facial...;)

Glo does offer tester display units :)

Ditto on the $15 facial. You don't want the clients who are after bargain treatments. Over time you will discover what you can offer great deals on. For example, people think my pricing for Brazilian waxing is too low at $35 (I will be having a price increase in January), but it takes me 15 minutes to do a brazilian, so....$35 isnt so bad! I'm not looking to put myself on sale, but aim to make a certain dollar amount per hour.

A $15 facial is insane. My clients would never trust their skin with someone who offered such a service. However, to build clientele you can always offer decent discounts to first time clients.

Andrea I've seen brazilians dont for $35 dollars. There is a place in Atlanta called Brizilians by Andrea, and they charge $35 dollars. Not bad of a price.

Nav, in response to the $15 dollar facial, they get what they pay for. So if they want to go to a $15 place, then honestly if they dont get the results they are looking for then they can't be mad. One thing someone told me thats a stylist said " You mark your prices at what you feel comfortable at, and what you feel as if your service it worth to you". Not saying to have outstanding prices, but price it what you are comfortable at. As far as skincare lines that I've used. Image was the first one, pretty good line but didn't use it long. I've used PCA peels on clients before, and they loved them. I've tried Skin script rx enzyme, and currently using Rhonda Allison.  I would say cost wise Skin Script is a good line. Also  also you grow you can add more lines, or move up to the line that you really have your eyes on.  Good luck with your search : )

Ha! Brazilians by Andrea. Love it! I agree, you mark your prices based on what you feel they are worth. People always react that my waxing prices are cheap, but, I like waxing, I'm fast, and it's a great source of revenue.

Brittnee- I'm just opening an account with Rhonda Allison (I've only had Dermalogica and Glo since going out on my own) and would love  to know how you like the line, what product and procedures give your clients the best results, etc. I don't want to hijack this thread, but send me a PM if you're open to chatting about the line!

I agree with Shelia1 I am STILL a student, but I am working toward having my own business. We use Dermalogica at school and I do like that line. However I really like Skin Scripts and that is the line I will be starting with.  I have really been reading alot on this site about what others are using. I have got great feed back concerning Skin Scripts line.  There is no min.  and I like the shipping price too. As far as the $15.00 Facial, I agree with everyone else.  I may do an Express micro facial for that price as a special sometime, but not as a  full facial. I know I do not have that much experience yet, but I do want to use great professional products, and I have to pay overhead and make some money.
