Ok so I have been waxing with hard wax for 15 plus years.  I had a gal in the other day, whom I wax regularly, and somehow I the skin underneath her eyebrow was removed when I waxed her.  She did tell me that she had just started using retin a so I am thinking that it migrated but crap!!!  My wax is so gentle I was so not expecting an issue.  I saw that it looked sensitive after, more than normal but she didnt feel it.  I wished I would have been some ointment on at that point but I did not.  I am a super holistic gal.  Can anyone recommend an alternative to neosporin to have on hand in the treatment room.  TY!

Perhaps a product with Tea Tree Oil?

This highlights the reason why we have clients read and sign a waxing consent form.

Most forms ask about meds and topicals...but whats important is that client be alert to talking about anything new or any changes to their routine.  But you have to give them an opportunity to tell you.

When I am taking someone back for service this is a good time to ask about any changes or problems - takes about 10 seconds,

I haven't had this happen (knock on wood), but I would have used neosporin too.

I would not use anything with essential oils on broken skin.

This is more of a wound than just an irritation. It will be important to keep the skins barrier protected while this client heals. Neosporin would not be my first choice, some manufacturers have post chemical peel products that would be very helpful. The old standby is aquaphor which is occlusive and will help keep the area moist, I prefer a product that has essential fatty acids for healing. I know dermaviduals and de la terre have some good natural serums that could help. Colloidal oatmeal masks are also helpful.

I would apply something cold to the area (ice, jade roller, cold finger tips, etc) and massage area with aloe vera . This will take out the heat and sting. Remove, dry and then apply neosporin.

We never wax clients that take Retin A.  Retin A does migrate into the blood stream and it is a definate contraindication to waxing.  If you ever do use Aloe Vera make sure it is Aloe from a health food store.  The price will be more than CVS or Rite Aid....it is costly because it is pure.  Anything less than $5 is cheap and full of chemicals....just an fyi.    If you are looking for something very natural in your room other than Neosporin (because you mentioned you are a holistic girl) get Manuka honey.  HAS to be Manuka which is from the bees in New Zealand.  It is a miracle honey and works for sooooooo many things!   I swear by it for everything.  Again, it can be pricey...but gosh it is worth it!!

Our Se-Brazil Ouch Balm was created speficially for these types of incidents. Its 100% natural and is one of our best sellers. We never intend to lift skin but its always nice to have something for when it does.

OUCH.........I would think that Retin A, Renova, Retinoids and accutane would be contraindications to not perform the service within a specified time of using those products.  We always get a medical history update before every service.  Sounds like a cold compress would be the first line of defense for breaking the skin barrier then homecare with a topical ointment such neosporin.

I agree with both Cindy and Claire.  Perhaps after the aloe, seal the treatment with an ointment such as Aquaphor or Neosporin to allow the wound to heal.  At home care will be essential to prevent scaring.  Hope all goes well !

I did this to myself once, knowing that I was on a prescription retinol and that you shouldn't perform waxing treatments until the product hasn't been used for about two weeks. I waxed my eyebrows and they looked really red but didn't hurt too much so I continued to wax my lip and ended up ripping my skin off in each area! I was SO embarrassed!!! Especially because as an esthetician I know better than to wax while on topical medications. I had heard about the miraculous healing benefits of Cell Protection Balm by GlyMed Plus so I bought it right away and started applying it periodically throughout the day. I was AMAZED at how quickly and effectively this product healed my skin! The next day I awoke and it was as if the Cell Protection Balm had mimicked my skin by creating a protective layer, allowing the damaged skin underneath it to heal and regenerate. It was healed after one day of consistent use and I have NO scarring or negative effects from it. I was beyond impressed! I keep this product in my back bar at all times for incidents like this and for use after chemical peels. I can not say enough good things about this product. I would definitely recommend looking into it. Check out their website at www.glymedplus.com and call them right away. You will be so grateful that you did!
