This is a 2-Parter...I'm going to be helping a new Esthetician (for free) starting out and I want to give her the best advice possible. Although I'm new at this specific industry, I've been doing makeup for 12 years and I also have a lot of internet knowledge. There is so much to know and so much to do but I know that I can give her a lot of information that will save her tons of time and headaches! I'm asking all of you b/c I've learned a lot here and I would love to be able to pass on even more. Thank you!!

1. Looking back on the beginning of your career, what was the best advice you were given?

2. What was one thing that you did that you think helped you the most as far as building your business?

1.  For me, the best advice was to be realisitc in how long it would take to build a practice.  Some people come out of school and expect to be booked overnight.  I appreciated that I was told it would be hard work, and to give it the time and effort necessary.

2. I think for me, having a Facebook page to get word out about where I work and what I do has helped bring people in.  Once people are in, going above and beyond with my services, making sure every client is fully satisified with their services and products is  the BEST thing anyone can do to assure return clients.

Treat those how you would want to be treated and it will come back to you tenfold. I really believe that the one thing I do best is love my clients and want to take care of them.  Watching them exit my treatment room with that restful smile on their face or hearing them say, "Can I just stay here all afternoon?" is when I can say, Diane..mission complete!  Giving my clients the best of me, results in trust from them and they refer me to their friends and loved ones.

To me the best advice is EDUCATION ~ knowledge is very powerful and this  is what sets apart a good esthetician from an ordinary one.

I was thinking about this today.  Best advice I would have liked to have been given:

Start off slow and with what you know and are comfortable with.  You don't need to have all of the latest and greatest things and technology as your hands are really your best tools.

If you are in a situation where you are renting...don't put too much of your own money into fixing up the room.  Make do with what is already there and give it at least a year to see if you are going to stay there or not.

Don't give up or lose focus.  If you love what you do then it will shine through in your treatment and the clients will eventually come.

Don't expect to turn a profit right away and be patient.

Get up to date on Social Media!!  That is probably my number one actually!

To name a few :)
