I am beginning to focus mainly on female Brazilian waxing and want to know:

1) What are clients looking for in a Brazilain? What would make them instantly refer their Esthetician to their friends/family?

2) How important is the Esthetician for a Brazilian? Can anyone do it successfully / those of you who do a lot of Brazilains, how big is your repeat client base?

3) What is the key demographic for women who get Brazilains? How many times does the average client go every year? How many people would you estimate get the services in your city (is it a lot)? Why do you think they get waxed in the first place (what is driving their decision)?

4) For salon owners, what are the key traits you look for when hiring estheticians to do brazilains? How do you find the best ones? Is it hard to find talented Brazilian waxers?

5) Do the best Brazilain waxers booth rent, work for themselves or for salons?

Thanks so much for your help as I navigate my new role!

This is a super late response, but I haven't been on this site in ages! I've been working in a waxing salon for three years now, and I know I'm one of the best in our city. Not to brag, but when you're good, you're good! My answers to your questions are from my own personal experience in the industry and what my clients have told me.

1. Clients are looking for someone who has a good personality and can make them feel comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation. I do my best to keep their mind off the pain, and get the wax over with as quickly and as painlessly as possible. They want someone who knows what they're doing, who is CONFIDENT, who does not hesitate. If you're scared of what you're doing, or don't know what you're doing, you can really hurt people. Confidence is key, in my opinion. My clients refer friends and family very regularly because, from what they've told me, I am fast, I don't hurt them (more than necessary!), and I have a good personality for this sort of thing.

2. Anyone can do it successfully, with the proper training, and with a good hard wax. I had a fantastic teacher. But practice makes perfect. My first 3-6 months, I was HORRIBLE and I have no doubt many clients begged to never be booked with me again. With time, patience, and lots of practice, I got my speed up, and learned what worked best for myself and my clients. Getting brazilians yourself from different people also helps you learn what to do and what not to do, what hurts less, what hurts more, etc. My client base keeps me pretty booked up. My clients book every 4 weeks religiously. I usually see no less than 12-15 clients a day.

3. Key demographic: lots of college girls. LOTS. It's summer now, and most of the girls are gone, but I've slowly built up a clientele of non-college students as well. Everyone gets waxed, age doesn't matter! But the majority are 18-35. Most regulars, like I said, come every 4-6 weeks. I suggest 4 in the summertime. In my city, everyone gets waxed. Many do it for the first time because they're sick of shaving. Some do it to try something different for their significant other. Some do it because they want to look good in a bikini. Most come back because the results are worth the 20 minutes of pain.

4. Not a salon owner (yet) but I have helped hire a few girls. We want someone who is interested in doing brazilians in the first place. Someone who is not afraid or shy, who pays attention and is a quick learner, and who is confident. A good personality and sense of humor is a big plus. It can be hard to find a good waxer, because everyone has their own techniques, and not everyone wants to do it how you show them. The client satisfaction is the deciding factor...they let us know whether the waxer is good or not. It can be very hard to find the right person.

5. Waxers can booth rent or work for the salon. It depends on the salon.
