Is there anybody else out there working for a spa that does not pay commission for retail sales? I work at a spa inside a hotel and casino and they have never paid commission for retail and the feeling from casino upper management is that we should want to sell for job security and because its part of the job. Obviously this ideal doesn't work because it's an industry standard to make sales commission, right? I guess the upside is we also have no minimums to meet....

What % retail commission do you make? And what are the rules and stipulations?

What would be some good points to really convince upper management to start offering commission without sounding whiny about wanting to make more money?

Thank you!

Yes it is industry standard to be paid a % of retail sales.

Even the girls at the department store counters make (or used to make) 2-3%

That said - my current position does not pay a retail sales commission, but my service % is a little higher.

Most places that I have been it's been 10%.

Employers pay this as an incentive to maximize sales.  And although it is always a part of the job and included in most job descriptions, I have never heard anyone threaten that you need to sell to maintain job security. Way to go management! Leadership through fear - bet that works great!
