How do you work consultations? Do you charge for them? offer them free?

I'd love to hear how different ones approach the consultation....

I always offer them for free.  It usually ends with the client booking an appointment because it gives me time to get to know them and for them to feel comfortable with me and confident in my decision for what is best for their skin!  It may take some time in your book, by I've learned it's well worth it!

how do you promote consultations, Gina? (love your name btw! haha) do you have them on your menu? offer them when someone calls...? I am just getting started and trying to figure out the best way to handle things....

Also- what do you do exactly in your consultations?

thank you!

I put them on my menu!  Alot of people get confused on what to get and what would be best for their skin.  Feel the customer out - if they seem "not sure"  offer a consult either when they call or add extra time to their appointment - that might give you time for add-on treatments that would benefit them etc.  I ask the client what their concerns are about their skin and whatever questions they have.  My purpose is to establish a comfortable/trusting relationship with the client.  Sometimes people feel pushed into getting things done that they don't fully understand.  In the long run, usually, the client will book with you and refer people as well!

great- I like this approach.

how much time do you allot for the consult?

Usually 15 minutes.  If it is a slow day maybe more!  LOL.  If they seem talkative and have alot of concerns - more than 15.  But usually in 15 minutes I can figure what that client is looking for.
Free... When I make the appointment, I let them know that I have blocked out enough time for a facial as well...
