Hi Hayley! Try CellCharge.  Use the association link to their site.  It's easy to use and you don't need a terminal, just your cell phone.  Hope that helps.
Paypal could be an option... I'm toying with just setting something up on paypal and using my computer.... I need to look at it closer.
I use PaymenTech thru CHASE, but I'm locked into a 3 year contract. I just signed up for MindBody which allows me to have online booking and much, much more and they also offer merchant accounts, but again I'm locked into the 3 yr. contract.  If you have a iPhone, iPad or Android there is device called 'Square' that you plug into the headphone on the phone and it enables you to scan the credit card. No fee for the device, google it, it's pretty cool! NO contract! Hope this helps :)
Beware of hidden charges with cc servicing companies. The list is unbelievable.  I believe that until your cc sales reach approx $7000 per month, pay pal is the more economical option.
Try Spa-Booker.com depending on your clientele. You'll find this software helpful.  Or Try Salonmaster.com
You should look into Mindbody software. Ni am switching over to them from appointment plus (whom I do not recommend ). I think for solo practice it's only $49/ mo
I currently use Appointment Plus, and I know the things which annoy me about the software..would you please share why you switched and what were your main complaints ?

Thanks,
Mary

Credit card rates are based on the number of and average ticket amount of transactions.  As a sole business person, you may find rates too high.  While the new devices available for smart phone useage sound interesting, there may be higher fees involved depending on your transaction amount.  Read the lanquage well.  Square up, go payment are just a few to mention for your phone.  Also check with you bank!  Keep in mind, we are moving towards a cashless society!  When was the last time you wrote a check?! Good luck!

If you have an iPhone, you can get Square.  It's a tiny square chip-like thing that plugs into your iPhone, and you can actually SWIPE credit cards (they sign on the screen), and they are emailed a receipt with a map and red pin pinpointing where they were charged.  The cost is 2.75% of each transaction.  No monthly charges.

Thanks everyone.........I've decided to give Square a try......no contract to sign and I just use my phone...I'll let you know how I go on :)

ooh I just checked this out and it looks pretty cool. I think I will start out with this, too.  Keep us posted, Hayley, on how it works!! (any issues/bugs/etc.)

Thanks!!

Yes, keep us posted on smart phone credit card devices and any hidden or unusual charges that you may experience!
