I used to accept Visa and MC as a form of payment but when fees skyrocketed I gave up and have been only accepting cash or checks. It is not only the fees charged but the inconvenience of having to leave the room, have another phone line to pay for...etc.. As far as safety (guarantee) I don't need it. My clients are only word of mouth referrals, nobody off the street. However, with the economy , maybe more people would be willing to indulge in pro skin care if they were able to charge their purchases. I would like to know if other independent, selfemployed estheticians accept credit cards.(obviously a full service spa, etc...will accept those!

i use square up.  you can go to squareup.com and get a free swiper.  it works with smart phones so no equipment is needed.  there is no monthly charge only a charge for each transaction.  you can swipe the card or key the numbers in for a little more.  i find that i can get add on easier by accepting credit cards because most people around here do not carry much cash. also, discover and american express are not extra.  i also let customers put tips on a credit card because only my family works here and they do not mind.  if it is just you it will not matter.

also cell charge at cellcharage.com is a company that charges only $10 per month and you can get your approval on any phone, even your cell phone.  they send you the receipts also.  i do not use them anymore since i have square up because discover and american express have different fees on this service but is a better option than other banks if you do not have an android or smart phone.

I'm not sure if you are still looking for a solution but I echo everyone who uses SQUARE! I own a skin care practice and use square but everyone who works with me also has the square app ( they process their own tips). It is easy, FREE, only 2.75%, and money is usually deposited next day. It is by far the best choice. I LOVE the square and I use it on my droid, iPod and iPad (with the iPad it is also a POS) & you can use it anywhere and of course we all know the benefits of accepting CC's...hopefully you have the SQUARE. Www.squareup.com

I have just inquired about Intuit Gopayment.   Sounds too good to be true!   So...does anyone know the difference between Square ap and GoPaymentt?     any hidden fees on any of these products?
