Hi! I am a new Esty trying to keep start up cost down. Was thinking of purchasing some Dermafiles instead of a Microderm machine.  Like the control. Was wondering if anyone had an experience with them.  Thanks

I'm curious too… I own a microderm but I've heard great things about Dermafile and really hope some folks chime in!

I purchased them but personally did not like them.

But then, I do have a microdermabrasion machine.

I think as an intro or low cost way to start expanding your services that they are a good value.

I was thing of purchasing them too. Cindy, what do you not like about them? I have a microderm machine and was not thinking of using them as a replacement for that, but was thinking of using the fine dermafile in the exfoliation process of my facials as oppose to using a scrub, as it seems to me no how much I wipe the granules never completely remove (and I use hot towels and sponges to remove them).

Chrystyn, that sounds like a good idea!

I thought that they were a little awkward and time consuming and was not really wowwed with results.

IMO the ultrasonic scrubber is faster, easier, safer and clients like the results better. Of course it could have been just me... ;)

So you like the results of the ultrasonic scrubber better? I have one and I love the results (instant glow!) but for some with hearing problems or damaged ear drums (my husband mainly lol) the frequency of the sound it makes while going over certain areas of the face is bothersome (this may just be my particular model it's on one of those 6 in one devices).  Do you experience this issue with yours?

I have 2 different ultrasonic units and have never noticed the sound so much - but I have heard from others about issues like you mentioned.

I would give the dermafiles a try with him and see how he likes it.

Shelley Hancock has them and I know several people use them on top of an enzyme.

If you don't like them you can always sell them to some one who DOES. But the cost is really reasonable.

The thing is - we are all so different and unique - different styles and techniques - what works for some, might not work for others!

This is true! I'm pretty sure I'm going to order them to try out... it's not like I'm losing much if I don't like them. I only know of one other place in town who uses them and it's in place of microdermabrasion. So it's something to offer that feels unique and new to clients.

let us know what you think!

I too am curious about these. Just watched a video. Interesting. If you want to purchase a microderm machine at a reasonable price, try lclbeauty. I purchased most of my equipment from them when I launched my business. I have the 5 in 1 microderm/galvanic machine. It was a great starter. I will probably upgrade this year.  http://lclbeauty.com/products.php?cat=40

I have both the micro machine and dermafiles, I think they are really for very different skin types.  I don't use the dermafile on it's own i prefer using it over an enzyme.  I can target certain areas of the face that need more exfoliation without irritating the skin and the enzyme works as a little bit of buffer.   It's great for clients who don't want something as aggressive as micro.  There are a lot of great videos but I had made one with Alexander's Aesthetics so if your interested in seeing what I mean with the enzyme you can watch that one and it could give you some ideas :)

Hope that helps a bit.

I love the dermafiles as a gentler, much more affordable alternative to microderm.

I bought 3 dermafiles from Shelley Hancock.com!  Wonderful consultant in this business!  This device takes up less space and is a safer exfoliating method, dry or using enzymes.
