I give 50% discount to the stylist I work with. My prices are reasonable with an express omega peel $40 and 1 hr massage $65. The stylist want to buy a gift certificate for Mother's Day do I discount for them? I am not running any specials since I do very well by not discounting. Also the owners 15 year old sister is coming 2x a month for the $40 facial do I discount that? I told her $40 last time. I feel that I am so reasonable and I do extra things for them.

Do they discount for you for their services?  Where I work, we basically either trade services with each other at no charge, or if just one wants a service, we do it for 40% off.   It should be fair to all, if you discount gift certificates for them, they should be giving you the same discounts on their services in return.

How much is the facial without discount? $40? I dealt with this same thing-Trying to figure out what to do for the stylists and family....I discount products 20% for family and stylists. I give the stylists (2 of them) one free service a month and after that I charge by time and back bar....About 50% off. I dont want to end up resenting them for not charging, etc. I dont mind what I am doing for them so far b/c they have alot of clientele and send the people to me.....I get worked up in my head-like after the first treatment I gave telling them they had to pay for backbar and time-but they didnt mind at all.....Sometimes I will take their trash out. Sweep up their hair or clean their mirrors....Just try to keep it fair and dont end up getting resentful when you give the discounts. With the gift certificate-A stylist wanted one for her mom and I said $10 bucks off instead of giving the complimentary gift I give with reg priced facial gift certificate.....Her mom doesnt get me clients and if you start doing that it can really back fire....Next the husband comes, then the daughter, then the daughters best friend....Keep it strictly to those who help you with your clients. We have to make money, time is money, the education was money, the start up costs alot....I have learned to put my foot down, know my value and do it in a nice way. Wow this is a long message!!! lol

I am doing a referral for stylist they send me 2 they get one free. Their first facial is free so they can tell their clients. After that half off my services. I also trade services as well but there's 12 stylist and it would take me a while to get to each one. If I don't discount gift certificates that they are buying for family does that make me rude? I am not sure the correct term I am trying to use its so late!

It is late and I need to be doing other things but Im on here!! I dont think it is rude at all....I make sure the 20% off products are just for the products the actual stylists are using....Its the same with the services....They are discounted for the actual stylist....Just tell them you can only discount their service and you cant start doing that for gift certificates....They should understand that...If you start then it tends to have the ripple effect (its late and I dont know if thats the right term! lol)-and all 12 will want discounted gift certificates, you end up using valuable, money-making time. If your not comfortable with that-no discount-then do just a dollar amt (like 10 bucks) off or give the family member a small complimentary gift-a little something or an item that isnt moving that isnt worth alot. Ok-time ofr bed!! Good luck! Im kinda hype on this subject b.c Im dealing with it too and standing my ground! Bills to pay!!

For my coworkers, we will do trade, facial for massage or whatever.  Then when it comes to buying gift certificates, we give eachother usually $10 off so a facial is $55 rather than $65 and vice versa.  Seems to work out well.  Also, if she wants to buy product I give her wholesale price.  I also do this with immediate family and very close friends.  It's more important for me that they get on good professional products than make money off them.  Also, they are the faces of your business.  Also we do a package together where we both technically lose $15 on the service but it's getting another person in the door.  Your prices are already fairly low in my opinion so maybe discounting 50% is a bit much...maybe 50% for her and then if she wants to buy GC go less like 15% or something.

My coworkers can perform treatments on their own family members (extended to include godmothers, because they are a big deal here) by paying a small usage fee to the business.  If a service provider from one department wanted to give a family member a service from another department, the two providers would have to figure it out based on trade or a reduced fee, and add in the business' fee for products.
