Hello everyone I am just wondering if you can give me an advice about safety and protection while performing the facials, I am loving my job and helping my clients with their skin concerns but there are sometimes when I am not sure if I should wear gloves all the time or not? I find very unconfortable to do a facial with gloves since I can't really feel the client skin but I know it is important to protect ourselves. Does anybody knows what kind of gloves are very good to use?  Thank you in advance.

I use nitrile gloves, for every single service. I was taught that way so to not use them feels weird. The key is that they fit well.  One word...herpes : /

Thanks Tabatha I appreciate your reply I guess you were taught that way so make sense, I was not taught like that but our teacher told us it was optional. I appreciate your reply and time.

8 ) Happy Holidays!

Do you know of anyone who has gotten herpes from not wearing them during a facial? Yikes!

Hi Ella I am sorry wow I haven't been in long time, No I do not know anyone who got herpes for not using gloves do you??

I only use gloves if I'm doing extractions or applying a peel.  I wash and sanitize my hands before and after and as long as someone doesn't have open sores on their face, I feel I'm protected as are they. I prefer getting a facial with no gloves.  I wasn't taught to wear gloves for a full service and I think it would feel odd.  I had a facial with someone wearing gloves and I could hear the crinkling of the gloves, which I found annoying.

I do as Jodi does, and having had them used on me-hate them, giving or receiving. I use tight vinyl or nitrile.

Thaks Deborah for the reply too I appreciate it.

Thanks Jodi I do the same too I only use them when I do extractions or if I see some kind open sores, I had try few times to wear the gloves but I feel like if I am bothering the client with the noise and the rubber over their face but also worry me not to wear because I do not want to get anything contagious. Thanks so much for your reply I appreciate it.

I did not use them in school. My instructor did not teach us to. But>......since I am working, I have seen too many people with open acne sores and a few with fever sores. Not taking a chance. I use them all the time....

Thanks Madalene for your reply I appreciate it :)

I have noticed that when I go to the dermatologist (several different derms), they usually wash up, and examine the area by touch, with bare hands. Then, they wash their hands again thoroughly, glove up, and proceed with any treatment protocol that is necessary. This has been the case for me when I have had moles, warts, and a paronychia (inflamed nail bed) treated, as well as when I used to visit the derm for acne as a teenager. The same is true now when I go in for botox - examine with bare hands to feel texture, wash up, glove up, and proceed with treatment.

I think this reflects the necessity of using our sense of touch to determine certain factors on the skin.

I follow this lead, and use clean bare hands to do my initial skin analysis so that I can accurately determine texture. Then a good antibacterial hand wash, and the gloves go on.
