Your wisdom needed for the next issue of ASCP Skin Deep magazine! If you have a specialty in your practice, what made you decide to focus on that? (If you don't, is there something you'd like to specialize in, some day? A particular service, or even a particular type of client?)

I am Certified as an Acne Specialist!  LOVE what I do!
I got into treating Acne after I dealt with adult onset acne that just wouldn't budge.  It was stubborn and embarrassing.  Once I got clear it was obvious that I could help my clients with their Acne, too, so I sought out the education and the right product line (Face Reality) and I have been specializing in that for 2 years.
I own a spa and Acne Clinic now and while I still do facials here and there, my days are mostly full of acne treatments  :)

Hi Cathy

Would you mind sharing what type of antiaging service you do?

wold love to hear from you.

I LOVE working with acne and that is because I love working with the people who are struggling with acne.  Seeing someone go from embarrassed, withdrawn, and self-conscious, to confident and happy is such a pleasure!  I also really like project-oriented work, and I see each acne struggle as a project that I work on over time to get the desired outcome.  Even though it costs me a client, nothing makes me happier than to "graduate" an acne client - switching them from 2-week facials to just seasonal tune-ups.

I am starting to have the same type of approach towards pigment work.  I think it comes down to a certain compassion for people who have something on their skin that they feel stands between them and the rest of the world.  I like to break down those barriers so people are confident in their relationships with themselves and others.  The best is knowing that your client is a real person with some insecurities, issues, and things you can help with.  Any time I start getting frustrated or burned out, I return to that sense of love and compassion for the people I work with.
