I just bought a wax warmer on sale, and I'm thinking I can save money paying for my own personal waxing.  But it's not as easy as I thought.  I waxed my legs and underarms, which of course, there are areas hard to reach and see.  Do any more experienced estys have any tips on this?

I have waxed my legs for years, but luckily, I don't have to wax above or behind my knees. The back of the calf can be a tough spot to get but, oh well, I guess it keeps me in shape. lol I've actually had to do my own bikini wax a couple of times. I placed a hand mirror on the bathroom floor in order to see all of those hard to reach areas. That  worked fine but really no subsitute for a professional waxing from an experienced esty!

I wax my legs and mostly own facial waxing - tips on brows is use hard wax- otherwise practice and in time it will get easier- if a friend or spouse can help hold skin in other areas can also help for body waxing. I did bikini a few times also- having all supplies ready and positioning yourself comfortably and correct will make process easier and faster!

Thanks everyone!  I will keep practicing and hopefully won't miss so much next time around!   :)

Underarms should be pretty easy.  I do mine in the mirror with hard wax.

Legs are labor-intensive but doable.  I do my own sometimes, but only to the top of the knee (blond hair above that, not interested in having it removed).  If you want to get your thighs, it's a little trickier.

I did my own bikinis for years, but honestly it takes almost three times as long to do your own than to have another good esthetician do it.  Also, I dunked the end of my ponytail in the wax once, leaning over to reach a tricky spot.  Boo.  I trade for this now.

The trouble with underarms is doing the one left handed (I'm right handed) and holding the skin taught to pull the strip off.  This time did go better than the 1st though.  I think I'll stick to those 2 areas...I did my brows for years, but need reading glasses now, which makes it hard.  I actually gave myself a little bald spot in one brow, I dropped a drop of wax in the wrong place while applying and didn't know about it until it was too late and I pulled.  ARGHH.  Thank goodness for brow powder!   :)

Try it with hard wax, reaching the hand of the underarm arm that you are waxing down your back to get the tighness you need.

I can't work with hard wax.  Used it only in school and hated it compared to strip.  I would need to find a class to relearn it again.

Sorry this is a very funny post to me so I had to comment. :))

I have waxed myself (EyeBrows) all my life with both roller ball (hated it) then hot wax (that was messy but ok) then hard wax which is very cool.  Also did my two sons and their peach fuzz mustaches.

Did a Brazilian on my girlfriend (I HAVE SO MUCH RESPECT FOR ALL OF YOU WHO DO THIS DAILY!!!!), but I have to say, practice practice practice.  You will get it!

Lastly, if you really want to try something... Try shaving your boyfriend/husband (practice on ballon first) with a straight razor.  I used one for a while and they say it takes 90 times to get the hang of it.  At first I did not believe it but after only 30 I stopped and I believe the 90.  I am to this day shocked at how sharp and easy it is to severely slice your skin. The process is amazing to me but I dont have an hour everyday to give to shaving. The other fascinating thing is how close it shaves and the way the skin feels after a straight razor shave.

Really funny thing...That was easier to do for a Brazilian then waxing. But I don't think my girlfriend would say so if you asked her.  Scared to death more like it.  That was a one time event.

Do you dermaplane?

Christine

Was your question directed at me?  If so...no.

I do not do any procedures where either a machine or in combination my hand deals with pressure and exfoliation. There is no way for me to know how much pressure and how many layers of skin cells you are removing.  With shaving you ARE removing skin cells and when you shave with a straight razor it is deeper, thus the completely different shave.  To give you an idea how close it is and how close dermaplane with a razor can be; I can shave every three days with a straight razor vs a BIC disposable which is every day.

So with micro dermabrasion or running a razor across the face how would you know you are not creating thick and thin areas of the skin and causing sensitive areas to hyper pigment or ? from exposure to the elements.

If I showed a picture of the SC under an Electron Scanning Scope you would see it and it would make more sense to you.

Microdermabrasion uses a sand paper like affect to remove skin cells and the machine and the hand and the distance of the wand and the skill of the operator create to many variables.  Also, this procedure does not act on the skin and cause it to work within its natural state. The skin takes a chemical acid into itself and stronger skin cells or weaker skin cells work independent with the acid as needed where with abrasion you are taking all of the good with the bad.

There is a lot more to this subject but maybe that will make a point.  I went a little off topic, sorry about that.

I wax my legs, facial areas, bikini or brazilian

Find someone to trade with.  Lips and underarms are pretty easy to do, but everything else is a pain in the neck.
