I was curious if the ASCP liability coverage covers Class 1 type lasers?  I have been working with a company called EuroLipo which is a new laser lipo technology and am considering adding it on as a service.  I am told that there isn't any license or certification for using this device...the creator is training me on the machine but I am worried about liability and coverage.  Thanks!!

It's great that you know to check this kind of thing out! ASCP insurance does not cover laser procedures as is, but you can contact the underwriter, APIC, and receive coverage for those procedures at an additional cost. We've worked it out with them so ASCP members get a discounted rate for these added coverages, so while it's still worth checking around to make sure you're getting the best deal, it should be significantly cheaper due to your ASCP membership. To inquire about adding this coverage please contact Daniel Cerpa at 800-860-8330, and make sure you let him know you're an ASCP member. Thanks!

awesome t hank you so much for getting back to me!!!  I will look into it.

Happy to help!

Hi Sheila,

Can you get me some specific technical information on this machine. Is the manufacturer talking about a class I medical device or the more specific laser classification. There definitely is licensing requirements in most states for laser use and I am wondering if this is not one of the LLT machines that are actually a class I device not technically a class II-IV laser. Thanks!
