I stopped doing waxing many many years ago...never was my thing. So, I need your help with a waxing question.

A fairly new client told me today that she has been waxing her underarms all Summer for the first time. She has noticed that since she started waxing, her deodorant is not lasting all day. Is this common? She also asked if she would have the same problem if she did Laser instead of waxing.

I have no clue how to answer her questions and I just know that my fabulous fellow Esty's can help.

Thanks guys.....Shelley

Hey Miss Shelley...

Quick question is she using a deodorant or anti-perspirant? I would also ask her how often she changes her brands and did she have this problem before waxing. What age is she and is she having any hormone changes as well...

Stephanie

When you have freshly waxed pits your antiperspirant doesn't have anything to grip to (stubble/hair) so it slides off
I noticed the same problem because I personally alternate shaving with waxing and I never have a problem with extra sweaty pits when I have a bit of stubble.

I think it may have to do with disrupting the normal bodily function of bacteria, perspiration ect. clinging to our hairs- which are our natural "perspiration catchers". If we pull those hairs out, the perspiration flows more freely up onto our skin, which could cause more apparent sweating under there. I have noticed more wetness myself now that I wax exclusively under my arms... but after a couple years, it's not near as noticeable as at first. her body just may need to adjust to the new physiology of her underarms! She may need to consider powdering under there, and using a longer-lasting deodorant.

This is my "theory".... haha

Great thinking, Gina!

I have done all - laser (didn't get ALL), wax & shave sometimes.  Trying not to share too much here, I do think it is hormonal as I have monthly fluctuations with the issue (44 yo) and it can be product related.

I wonder if this is a combination of factors - perhaps your client could try a crystal type product.  I have heard great things about these.  Stephanie also brought up a point - is it deoderant or anti-perspirant - changing product can help.

To answer your client, Shelley - hairless is hairless whether waxing or laser.  Only laser is costly, painful and in my case not "complete".

I would tell her your research says XXX which isn't necessarily clear-cut but shows you care, and hope she finds a solution.

A number of years ago, I was a bartender in a bar where we wore "muscle shirts." (Yes, there was a time where I had muscles.  Little ones).  Believe it or not, we were required by the Health Department to shave our armpits (oddly, we could go completely shirtless without having to shave).  I found that I, um, "smelled better" as a result of shaving.  However, it was shaving not waxing, and I use (and have always used) antiperspirant, so maybe there's a difference.

I still shave my pits because I still perceive that there's a benefit, i.e. that I smell fresher, and better.  Also, my dates like it too.  Double win!
