I am a Virginia licensed Master esthetician. I live in a small town called Lexington. Right now I am currently in a salon and thought that by moving in there I would have more traffic. So far, it does not seem that way. My regular clients have slowed down a bit and I really have not picked up too many new ones. Is any body else out here experiencing a slow down at this point in time. I have advertised incredible specials and still no bites???? Any ideas? Mare

I too live in a small town.  I was definitely experiencing a slow down.  Our services can be considered "luxuries" instead of necessities.  My suggestion would be looking into a new avenue of service that no one else or barely anyone else performs.  An example... sugaring, threading, or air brush tanning with glitter.  Also, join a networking group like MOB or BNI.  These groups really work in a small town.  Offer a ridiculous special... $40 Microdermabrasion.  Work your hairstylist.  Run a promotion with them.  Whoever sends you the most referrals in a week gets a free facial for themselves or better yet a valued client of theirs.  Get written up in the local paper.  Take on an issue such as no double-dipping or sanitation/sterilization practice or skincare services of the future.  Attend business woman meetings.  The Chamber of Commerce is also a great way to connect with other businesses.  Print up flyers/postcards and post them in bathroom stalls (I know but it works for me!!)  Post them in fitness clubs.  Sometimes pounding the pavement is better than just advertising alone.  Look into social networking advertising in your area.  Give away gift certificates as door prizes at events or meetings.  Most of these ideas will require a small investment or maybe going outside your comfort zone.  If people do not know who and where you are.... they will not find you!!  Best of luck from my small town to yours!!!!
Thanks so much for the valuable information!!!! Mare
