Hi everyone, I was wanting to provide skin care services for women who are going through chemotherapy or who are done with it. I  know that many times the skin is severely affected by these treatments among many other things. I want to be able to offer my services for free or at least for a minimum fee (to cover the cost of the product use). any one have any suggestions as to how I could go about getting started with this? Perhaps, point me in the direction of someone already doing this? I would love to talk with them as a mentor. Your help is greatly appreciated.

There is a certification course that you can take if you want. I have not taken it myself. There's a show coming up in Orlando, Fl and these people will be there as well.

Good luck!!

I attended their class at the Midwest Beauty Show in March. It was short and not  very informative class, specially if you have a basic understanding of cancer. I went to the class in hopes of learning more before I took the program.  However, the speaker literally said this not a profession/clientele easily obtained because drs. don't believe that cancer patients should be doing anything to their skin during treatment due to sensitivity and sanitation. She said that to focus your biz on this specialty would not be financially profitable but to sign-up & take the coarse anyways, lol.

Get the training if its something you want to do for charity, class costs about $800. If you want to give back volunteer for Look Good Feel Better through the American Red Cross. After your one day training you only have to volunteer to teach a 2 hr class 4 times a year. This is what I do and I am loving it.

Good to know!!  I was going to take the class eventually but will probably pass.

I'm  definitely  going  to  check  it  out :)

Thanks for the info ladies !

A great product line to use for your cancer clients is PCA SKIN (Physician's Care Alliance, LLC. They have a skin care system just for those going through chemo and radiation therapy. It is called: The Solution for Chemotherapy and Radiation Therapy Support. Consists of 10 products. PCA has no minimums. You just need to get certified every two years to be able to use and sell their products. Check out their website for classes and locations.

I forgot they had that line, great idea Susan!!

The American cancer society has the look good feel better program that is great! Contact them!!!!

Image Skin Care has the Ormedic line that is designed for unbalanced skin, pregancy, and cancer. It's wonderful! My husband used it while he was undergoing chemo and I think it really helped his skin handle the rigors of that treatment.

There's a one-hour free ASCP webinar coming up on June 25 on the topic of oncology esthetics. No registration link yet, sorry, but that will be available closer to the date. It's presented by Dr Kevin Schewe who is a radiation oncologist and also manufactures his own skin care line. As one of his former patients I can definitely recommend him so I think it'll be a really good webinar.

Take the oncology certification, you can get info at www.touchforcanceronline.com. And tecniche is an excellent product line to use on cancer patients and retail, check them out as well. They are formulated for health challenged skin and are very affordable! I am a certified oncology esthetician and I would highly recommend the class!
