Hi everyone. I recently took an anti-aging class and we were talking about the best acids for aging skin. The instructor told us lactic is the best, because it hydrates, brightens and increases collagen. She also said glycolic is not good for aging as it's not hydrating, the small molecules cause it to penetrate too quickly, which can stimulate the inflammatory response, in turn increasing the aging process. Since so many product lines use glycolic in cleansers and peels, I wanted to get other estheticians' thoughts on this. (The class was at IDI, not a Dermalogica specific course, but I'm sure they still teach to what they use, and Dermalogica uses lactic over glycolic). Hence why I want some other 'neutral' opinions on this. Thanks!
I love love love lactic peels, they are actually my fav epecially for dry, tight clogged, dull skin. I would do a series of lactics and maybe alternate with 1 or 2 glycolics. Skin Scripts describes their glycolic as: dissolves desmosomes that hold skin cells together to allow sufficient exfoliation. Exfoliates and softens, treats mild to moderate acne, min pore size, allow acne impaction to purge, stimulates collagen. Tey suggest more for acneic, congested and oily skin although it's ok for everyone.
