I just read an article in the Ashland (OR) Daily Tidings about a spa owner who threw her first men's-only "A Beer and A Buzz" party in which males, some of whom might be a bit leery of time-consuming grooming and the thought of "ooey" beauty treatments, were lured off the highway by a sign promising $15 haircuts, $5 brow waxing, $10 manicures, $15 chair massage and $20 express facials, along with beer in buckets in the front yard of the spa! The article stated it was a way for a guy to get groomed without feeling so pampered, but more "manly." I  thought it was a very interesting concept to reach out to try to capture business from men, and wondered if any one else has tried this at their spa?

Speaking as a male, I love this idea! Offer me a beer tasting as part of the event, and you could get me to do pretty much anything. :-)

Ha! After a beer or two, you might not even NOTICE that your brows are being waxed!

Really...Very interesting...Looking to attract more men to my clientele' ..any other ideas?  Hair cut, brow wax, manicure, chair massage, express facial, beer in a bucket...what type of music?  Need a better way to promote...

I have spent the last 4 years working in a male only salon and of course it didn't have the usual fluff that a female location has so men were typically drawn to it....they particularly liked it due to the fact that we gave them beer or wine when getting their hair cut (for free) so we didn't get into trouble with the http://www.abc.ca.gov/.     Men do like to be pampered especially when booze is involved....even if it is just one beer.    THis salon has been in business for over 10 years and is doing great.  Another male only salon has just started advertising the fact that they now have a keg in the salon so they can help themselves.  lol

The only issue i would ever have as a salon owner would be how to monitor how much they are drinking as you don't want to be liable if they get in the car, drive and injure somebody.  Other than that it is a FAB idea and i have seen it work and it does work well!!!    Good luck if you try it!

Thanks for the great feedback. The article did say that they gave sample sizes of different types of beer, so I guess that was their way of keeping it under control. A man would have to drink a lot of Dixie cups full of beer to be over the legal limit! Good to know that the male only salon you worked at was a success.

When I lived in the Bay Area (San Jose, CA) There were a couple male only places (American Male for one)  I interviewed with them and they had a very rugged look, leather recliners and big screen TV's in the waiting area.  They also offered beer and wine (1 glass or one bottle) per person.  It wasn't serve yourself, so they were able to control it.

I love the beer in buckets idea though with the special pricing for men. I'm going to bring that up at our salon.  We are getting ready to move to a new location (so excited) and this would be a great little event to offer to bring in more men.  Maybe do like a "Man's Monday" thing one a month or something.

I love the "Man's Monday" idea! Or this fall, maybe offer a "Football, Facial and Free Beer" Sunday!

Oooo, that's a good one too.  Or for those of us that do male Brazilian's.... Pizza, Beer and a Brazilian :)

The possibilities are endless :-)
