About how waxing can be contradictory with things with do in the skin care business? waxing (even the most gentle one) can be very abrasive on the skin. I would rather do sugaring. I cannot, for the live of me, do wax on people. As a laser technician I see how those women that have been treated for YEARS with wax have lost their elasticity on the skin. So very damaging :(

Just a random thought...

Sorry for my late reply.  I find your observation to be very interesting.  I've always considered waxing to be healthy for the skin.  It's a great exfolliant for removing dead skin cells, allowing healthier ones to emerge.  Sometimes I think that esty's fail to do two VERY important things:

1.  Some esty's skip the extremely important step of placing a protective barrier on the skin.  By applying just a very thin amount of oil before laying down the wax, this insures that only hair is being taken up during the pull instead of precious skin.

2.  Some esty's fail to hold their client's skin taut before removing the wax.  The constant tugging motion on the skin due to not holding it taut over time can greatly contribute to the zapping of elasticity.  Our skin can be very resiliant.  But when improper care and technique are used, just like a rubber band it will eventually stretch and lose its ability to snap back so to speak.

My observations have been done throughout the years of being a hair removal laser technician. I always guess when they person has done waxing for years. I think that even with a "good technique" doing this for so many years, it creates micro damage on elastin, collagen and even pigmentation. Specially if it's done in the face. But I see a lot of wax damage in delicate areas like the Brazilian. :(

Totally agree with you Angela!  I think it's all in technique.  even with Sugaring.  If you aren't careful, you're causing trouble.

Hello! I used to be a laser tech. too, so I can understand your concern. As a hair removal specialist, I decided to carry all mediums: wax (cold and ease) and sugar. In my experience, after years of doing these types of services, I found that everyone responds differently to hair removal. Uprooting the hair is traumatizing for the skin, it doesn't matter if you're sugaring or not, the ultimate goal is to remove the hair at the root while keeping the skin as protected as possible. That being said, it is inevitable that some won't do well with either hard or strip wax while some people won't have a good response with sugaring. Everyone is different. There are various reasons why: hair becomes too fine to break through the skin, the skin heals faster than the hair can regenerate, the client isn't diligent about home-care/after-care, the skin has a very reactive or overactive response to trauma, or the person isn't a good candidate for any of these methods of hair removal at all.

You can choose to carry only one type of medium if that's what you're comfortable with, but I can tell you with confidence that you'll run into a group of people who will have a negative response with sugaring also regardless of their diligent home-care with proper products. I think it's best to have something available for anyone, but that's only my experience and opinion.
