Hi all. I am new to this part of the site but I have been a member of ASCP  and Aesthetician since 2005.  I am looking to move my practice out of my home in to a professional space.  I live in Rutland, MASS and am looking for a space in the Worcester county area.  I have tried all of the usual contacts for a space but not have had much luck.  I even contacted the Wachusett Chamber of commerce with no return call. Any suggestions??

Are you looking for a store front space or just to rent out of an already existing business?  I would use a real estate agent if you are looking for commercial space.  Otherwise look on craigslist for room rentals.  You can always google day spa in the area you want to be in and see who is there and contact those businesses to see if they want to rent a room.

awesome thank you. I actually found a space that I think will be great location wise. Any ideas on where to search online for reception furniture, desk and retail display cases or units?

I would prefer storefront as I already have an established name and business, I have tried a realtor but not really much help. Been on CL and not much there for my price point, I guess I just have to be patient...

Yes, be very careful with your rent and expanding in general.

I'm speaking from the other side now as I expanded my business from a one-room practice to a large spa in 2010, and when I hit some personal roadblocks this past year, running such a big business really became overwhelming and now I am working on selling it.

In most industries, your rent should be around 8% of your revenue.  Since you are already operating out of your house for the past several years, you should have a good idea of that revenue.

If you decide to go for a space that is large enough for multiple treatment rooms, make SURE you have a way to cover that additional rent - even possibly a business partner.

Owning a business larger than yourself can be very lonely.  Not trying to be a pessimist, but I'd love to spare someone the heartbreak I am going through right now.

I appreciate your candor and advice.  I am just looking to have enough space for me. Right now I really don't plan to expand with anyone, but I do want to be on my own.  I love what I do but I will also be at a PT job to have that steady income to protect myself.  I am sorry you are going through this.  But again I do thank you for your help.
