Hi everyone! My name is Tara, Im a esthetician in Lincoln, NE. I am a full body waxer at a salon here in town (I rent a room) and am so excited to join this group of wonderful people!!!. I had a couple questions, I am looking to expand into doing facials (I just ordered a hot towel cabi last week it should be here soon) and I am super excited, but when it comes to products, I HAVE NO IDEA where to start. I was taught with Bioelements, and they are great for most but dang they are super expensive!! Especially considering the bulk of my clientele is just there for waxing. I was looking online, and found a website called Aesthetics backbar.... I looked at their stuff, and it seems really low priced, but I have never heard of them before. Which in turn kinda scares me. What would you all suggest, if I am wanting to get started, but dont want to have a HUGE amt of facial stuff, like what kinds of facials should I offer? what product line seems legit and fairly priced? Idk if I will sell retail or not..... I am so overwhelmed by it all. I do know I would like to offer a "special" type of facial that would change with the seasons or major holidays (i.e. a pumpkin facial for fall, a peppermint one for xmas, etc) but I dont want to get in over my head. If any of you guys have any thoughts, advice, suggestions, PLEASE share!!!! I need the help because originally I just wanted to wax, but now I want to expand. Thank you all!!!!!!!

What are your strong points when performing facials?  Are you good at making them super relaxing?  Awesome extraction queen?  Like to pull in every piece of high-tech equipment ever invented?  Think about the cross-section of facial techniques that you really excelled with in school, and build your facial menu and determine your product line around the skills that you're best at and enjoy the most.  You can't be everything to everyone, but you can identify some common skin issues that your waxing clients may be having, and focus on addressing those.

If you're not planning on retail right now then you might think about not necessarily going with a product line and just mix-n-matching some great products to put together a facial you can offer. Sign up for Universal Companies catalog. It's a salon/spa supply store online and in a catalog. They've got some good cost effective products to choose from with a wide range of facial masks you can order in singles.

Hi Tara,

I saw your post and wanted to comment. I am from Nebraska too and now live in Arizona. Wanted to offer up the line I work for....Skin Script. www.skinscriptrx.com

We are a clinical line that offers you a nice range of enzymes and acids that are super easy to customize for your clients. (We have very cool seasonal enzymes!!) Plus the whole line is VERY affordable to use in both backbar and retail. Your customers will love the results as well as the price point. No longer does awesome skincare have to be so darned expensive.

By the way: Skin Script will be hosting a training in Kansas City on Sunday, July 28th, from 10 - 3. Save the date!! We will be mailing out a postcard to the licensed aestheticians in the Omaha/Lincoln/Des Moines/KC areas. Be on the lookout for it! These trainings are complimentary and include lunch. This will give you a chance to look, touch, feel and smell the product so you can evaluate it appropriately. Please join us! Another nice thing about Skin Script is that there are no minimums to open an account. Simply order what you want, when you want. And the shipping is a flat $5 nation-wide. We offer a ton of free education online through our webinars. We want to reach out to you and help you develop your business!
