Hi!

I haven't used a high frequency machine/probe since esthy school, nearly 9 years ago. I'm wanted to integrate one into my treatments, specifically for treatment of ingrown hairs in the bikini area as well as introduce it into my deep cleansing facial.

1. What are the protocols for high frequ?

2. Contraindications: (From what I remember) have client remove all jewelry, contraindicated for: couperose, pacemakers, heart problems, high blood pressure.

3. After waxing the bikini area, use high frequ, then apply homecare treatment?

Advice and thoughts appreciated!

I use high frequency in my practice, but not for the reasons you mentioned.  I would be concerned about using it on freshly waxed skin due to comfort levels and risk of over use (it could cause a little burn on skin if overused).  I have seen pigmentation occur if the wand it up to high, so take it really easy with the strength.  I often use indirect high frequency (client holds the wand while you massage product into the skin) for sensitive skin or over dry skin that needs deep product penetration.  I also use it as a spot treatment for lg pimples/ papules.  Just don't apply more than a few seconds and keep it low.  Higher is not better and you are using electricity, burns happen.

I wasn't aware high frequency did much for product penetration.

HF is great for waxing.  It speeds up the healing process and reduces the redness.  It is also great to use if you have gently extracted an ingrown hair.  using the HF will aid in the healing of this area also.   BUT like @Jennifer said...keep it low...you don't want to blast the skin with too much heat or for too long.   Using the gauze also protects it from too much heat.

Use gauze with HF as the gauze works as a conductor making it more beneficial to the skin.

Sparking/Zapping if done too often can cause a scar or hyperpigmentation so don't be zap happy.

Men love HF...especially after their waxing.  If they have a 'few' pimples it is good to use and it also helps if they are prone to breaking out after a back/chest wax.   Men love this extra attention LOL and might tip you accordingly!  :)

Pregnancy, pace makers, metal implants...are contraindications.

I have a chapter on HF in my books that I wrote on waxing.  If you want more info I can give it to you.  Just don't want to tout my books on here.

Good luck!  I love my HF machine!    I burnt both of my shoulders last year on the beach (not enough sunblock) I treated one shoulder with HF (as a test) and left the other shoulder.  The shoulder I treated with HF healed much quicker, wasn't as red and didn't peel.....unlike the untreated shoulder that shed like an old handbag!! ;)

Question about back waxing and redness? I waxed a gentleman's back and he called today to tell me he was still red. Is this normal or have you experienced this before? He was very hairy, and was sensitive but   I am not sure if he did something to aggravate the area.

Ladies, I appreciate both of your thoughts and comments. Thank you so very much- exactly what I was hoping for!
@Claire: I'd appreciate your book very much. What's the best way to contact you? My work email is barebeautystudio@gmail.com

I zap the neck out of everything. Lol I will say that I had metal springs implanted for female sterilization and every time I use the zapper it give  me.  Small jolt. Lol
