I need a few oils for my holiday facials to add to my hot towels. I would like a nice scent like peppermint, but with that being said I need to be cautious of the eye area. Any ideas?

How about evergreen oils like pine or spruce? I've seen both of those used in aromatherapy and as far as I know they're okay to use diluted on skin (I'm not an expert though) and they have a holiday feeling.

You could look for some "comfort" scents too, since peppermint, pine and spruce all seem more like "wake-up" sort of scents to me. When you look at seasonal scented candles, a lot of those are themed around things like baked goods - apple pie, gingerbread, sugar cookies etc and some of those might be nice fragrances for a holiday facial if you can find an oil in that scent that's suitable for skin.

I agree, Peppermint is too much of a wake up call to use on towels for the face. How about clove? There's usually a lot of essential oils with clove, the cinnamon spice ones are usually too strong. I've been using a Tangerine blend essential oil for my towels which smells good. Another idea, is to do a hand exfoliation treatment using a butter scrub from the company Spa Blend called "Peppermint Hope" to bring them that minty fragrance. They also have wonderful aromas with their lotions/body butters and even massage whip cream. I have loved most of their products.

I think that the holiday scents are just too strong to use on facial towels.(peppermint, clove, cinnamon, and even the pine-y ones).

Katrina has it right by using a citrus scent.

Maybe it's just me, but I have too many clients who are sensitive to essential oils, I stopped using them on towels well over a year ago.

I will use the scented body butters for hand/arm/shoulder massage IF I know that they do not have allergies/sensitivities....but not on the face...ever.

You are all so great, thank you. I love all of your ideas. I usually use lemon grass or lavender in my towels and have never had any issues with sensitivity, but I dilute them really well. I think scented towels are my favorite part of a facial, I would hate to get rid of them. I am going to look into some scented butters and creams, thanks lady's!

Sometimes, I think some clients are assaulted with the synthetic oils and there's a huge difference with therapeutic ess. oils. Love lemongrass and lavender as well. Peppermint can be a little stimulating and cause eyes to water if you used too many drops in water, (some just don't come out drop by drop) but it's a great pick me up for tired feet. I always use scented towels, rarely does anyone have a problem.

How about lavender? It's not holiday-ish, but it is very relaxing

Do you have a company that you like to order your oils from? I am setting up a new location and my head and pocket book is spinning! LOL

I have used Rocky Mountain, NOW, Puritain's Pride. It just takes some research. I use mainly for scented towels. I would just pick a couple that you really like because they can be quite expensive, and learn about them as you go, if you want to use them for more than towels.

Neroli is very expensive but great....instead of neroli which is pricey how about orange?  Orange can be subtle if you only use a small amount obviously.   Oooh another essential oil which is soothing is Vanilla.   What I used to do with vanilla was add some to a bit of lotion and rub into my hands, then place my hands near their nose and ask them to breathe in a couple of times before I started the massage.....this was a nice introduction to the relaxing part of the facial.  Keep it to one drop in your hands to reduce over powerment!!

Claire, where did you order your Vanilla essential oil from? I'd like to know, sounds soothing!

There are a few natural health grocery stores near me that sell supplements, vegan food etc...they have a big selection of 100% essential oils in there.  I just buy them when I need them from there.  Most health food places stock 100% essential oils.  Make sure they are 100% so you are not getting the cheaper/fake version....hippy shops that sell crystals, bells, books, tarot cards etc...usually sell the oils too.

when your looking for therapeutic oils, the botanical name and country of origin will be on the bottle, I found some (but not all) at my local health food store as well. sometimes they have testers available which is nice.
